GRUVER - Darrell Wright, 77, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church
with the Rev. Scott Curry and Randy Messer officiating. Burial
will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of
Spearman.
Mr. Wright was born Sept. 9, 1927, in Levelland. He married Sara
Sloan on May 17, 1952, in Spearman. He was a field operator for
Phillips Petroleum for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist
Church of Gruver. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in
the Army.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jayne Wilson and Jean
Barnes, both of Amarillo; a son, Nathan Wright of Eldorado, Kan.;
a brother, Elvin Wright of Gruver; two sisters, Nelda Wright and
Ima Lee Smith, both of Levelland; five grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Amarillo Nursing Center, 4033
S.W. 51st. Ave., Amarillo, TX 79110; BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950,

SPEARMAN - Freddie Vern Largent, 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 8,
2004.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Christ
with Leonard Harper officiating. Burial will be in Hansford
Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Largent was a cosmetologist and a clerk at Gordon's Drug in
Spearman for nearly 30 years. She was a member of the Church of
Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Gallimore of Beaumont and
Pamela Prieto of Shallowater; 12 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Spearman's Children's Home or
a favorite charity.

Ruth Mary Whitson
SPEARMAN - Ruth Mary Whitson, 90, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church
with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Burial will be in Hansford
Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitson was born July 29, 1914, in Garber, Okla., and had
lived in the area since 1934. She married Jack Whitson on Nov.
29, 1934, in Sunray. She taught fourth grade at Spearman
Elementary School from 1958 to 1978. She was a member of First
Christian Church of Spearman, O.E.S. and Spearman Retired
Teachers Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 5, 1979; and
her parents, Charles and Ruth King.
Survivors include three sons, Bill of Spearman, Bob of College
Station and Tom of Powell, Wyo.; two daughters, Betty and
Frances, both of Dumas; a sister, Barbara Jean Finley of Houston;
two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Jack H. and Ruth Mary Whitson
Scholarship Fund, WTAMU Foundation, P.O. Box 60766, Canyon, TX
79016; or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

GRUVER - Jerry Lynn Duncan, 62, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Scott Curry and the Rev. George Price
officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell
Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Mr. Duncan was born April 28, 1942, in Altus, Okla., to T.T. and
Joyce Duncan. He graduated from Gruver High School. After
graduation he worked on the farm for several years before moving
to Houston, where he worked for a large trucking firm. After
moving back to Gruver, he worked on the farm when his health
allowed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Richie Todd.
Survivors include four sons, Kelly Don and wife, Sylvia, and
Tracy, all of Dallas, Bobby and wife, Dawn, of Conroe and Justin
of Gruver; a daughter, Launa Nehi and husband, Robert, of
Washington, D.C.; nine grandchildren, Kyle, Allen, Emily, Preston
and Olivia, all of Dallas, Sara Ann and Joshua, both of Conroe,
and Alexander and Miriam Page Nehi, both of Washington, D.C.; and
a brother, Gene and wife, Francis, of Gruver.
The family suggests memorials be to Gruver Ambulance Fund, P.O.
Box 947, Gruver, TX 79040; or a favorite charity.

HITCHLAND - Randy Karl Hardesty, 42, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Gruver Cemetery in
Gruver with the Rev. Gary Gumfory, pastor of Gruver First
Christian Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Bunch-Roberts
Funeral Home of Guymon, Okla.
Mr. Hardesty had been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from
Gruver High School with the class of 1980.
Survivors include his mother, Gloria Cooper of Hitchland; his
father, John L. Hardesty of Ute Park, N.M.; a sister, Lesa
Carlile of Amarillo; two brothers, John Hardesty of Guymon and
Brad Hardesty of Larned, Kan.; and a grandmother, Mickey Delano
of Gruver.
The family suggests memorials be to the American Cancer Society
and may be sent to the funeral home.

BORGER - Gladys Evans, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in
Spearman.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. (MST) Wednesday in Tucumcari
Memorial Park Cemetery in Tucumcari, N.M. Arrangements are by
Brown Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Evans was born July 26, 1914, in Tucumcari. She married
Charles Evans on March 28, 1935, in Tucumcari.
Survivors include three sons, Charles Evans of Stinnett, Vernon
Evans of Carlsbad, N.M., and Glenn Evans of Tucumcari; a
daughter, Marie Jones of Morse; a sister, Marjorie Jackson of
Willis; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 26
great-great-grandchildren.

DIMMITT - Verna Merle Arthur, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the
Rev. Scott Curry officiating. Burial will be in Gruver Cemetery
by Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home.
Mrs. Arthur was born Sept. 8, 1916, in Panhandle. She graduated
from Happy High School in 1934. She married Benjamin Samuel
Arthur on Aug. 14, 1936, in Canyon.
She attended Panhandle State University and West Texas State
College. She taught in the Gruver school system for more than 25
years before retiring. She moved to Dimmitt from Gruver in 1997.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gruver and attended
First Baptist Church in Dimmitt for the past seven years.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 9, 1997; an
infant daughter, Marilyn Arthur; five brothers; and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Bryant of Dimmitt and Jo
Wilson of Fritch; three grandchildren, Dana and Darren Smith,
Bruce and Monica Bryant and Bryan Wilson; four
great-grandchildren, Breanna Larkin, Keely Wilson, Bailey and Ben
Bryant.
The family suggests memorials be to Dimmitt Senior Citizens;
First Baptist Church of Gruver; or First Baptist Church of
Dimmitt.

GRUVER - Ina Faye Hulcy Soapes, 88, died Thursday, Sept. 30,
2004.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today in First Christian Church with
the Rev. Gary Gumfory officiating. Burial will be in Gruver
Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Mrs. Soapes was born in Elbert on Nov. 12, 1915. She lived in
Gruver for the past 53 years. She married Clyde N. Soapes in 1933
in Olney. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian
Church of Gruver.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elonzo and Sara Bryant
Hulcy; her husband in 1998; a son, Clyde Norman Soapes; and a
daughter, Debra Lynn Soapes.
Survivors include a son, Jessie Neal Soapes of Mountain Home,
Ark.; two daughters, Alice Fay Peddy of Gruver and Brenda Crowley
of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Shirley of Estancia, N.M., and
Naoma Chambers of Arnett, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Death: Feb. 12, 2004
GRUVER - F. Wayne Shook, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, in
Spearman.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gruver Cemetery
with the Rev. Scott Curry officiating. Arrangements are by
Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
Mr. Shook was a farmer and rancher. He retired in 1990 and liked
to go fishing and camping. He served in the Navy from 1944 to
1946 on the USS Teton and USS Halford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Leona (Cannon)
Shook; and two sisters, Jane Stewart and Eloise Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Floydean; two sons, Eddy Shook and
wife, Mary, of Sunray and Rex Shook and wife, Nena, of Dumas; a
daughter, Rhonda Stafford and husband, Vernon, of Dumas; two
brothers, Robert Shook and wife, Georgia, and Clyde Shook and
wife, Georgia, of Newcastle; 10 grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
