Emma 'Polly' Tate
PANHANDLE - Emma "Polly" Tate, 87, died
Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in Shamrock.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church
of Wellington with the Rev. Dorian Blasingame, retired
Baptist minister of Amarillo, officiating. Burial will be
in Fairview Cemetery in Wellington by Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tate was born Nov. 21, 1915, in Collingsworth
County, to General Lee Blasingame and Lena Hayes
Blasingame. She married Ernest Tate on Aug. 3, 1934, in
Hollis, Okla. She was a member of Panhandle First Baptist
Church. She graduated from Wellington High School
in 1934 and received her RN degree from Amarillo College.
She had been director of nursing for Thomas Nursing Homes
in Wellington and McLean. She lived in Lutie from 1942 to
1965, in Wellington from 1965 to 1978, and in Panhandle
since 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1965; and 11
brothers and sisters. Survivors include a son,
Rudie Tate and wife, Karon, of Samnorwood; a daughter,
Dottie Holliman and husband, De, of Panhandle; a sister,
Lena Cason of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Garretson Retirement
Center, P.O. Box 1239, Panhandle, TX 79068.

Cuma Lorella
"Tiny" Harmon
HEDLEY - Cuma Lorella "Tiny" Harmon, 69, died
Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Bruce Howard, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in East Mound Cemetery in
Matador by Robertson Funeral Directors of Clarendon.
Mrs. Harmon was born March 5, 1933, in Dickens County.
She had lived in Borger for five years before moving to
Hedley in 1984. She married Lonnie Murl Harmon on Aug.
19, 1950, in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a homemaker and a
member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Wayne Harmon
on Oct. 18, 2001.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Tommy L. Harmon of
Amarillo; four granddaughters, Karen R. Tucker and
Samantha A. Harmon, both of Clovis, N.M., Terri J.
Metzger of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Lisa A. Harmon of Fort
Worth; and four great-grandchildren.

Essie Cooper Knowles
GROOM - Essie Cooper Knowles, 95, died Sunday, Feb. 16,
2003.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Groom United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Weldon Reeves officiating.
Burial will be in Groom Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon
Funeral Directors of Amarillo, 5400 S. Bell St.
Mrs. Knowles married Burnise H. Cooper on Oct. 9, 1924,
in Sayre, Okla., and he preceded her in death in 1971.
She moved to Groom in 1944. On Dec. 28, 1976, she married
a longtime friend, Steve Knowles in Erick, Okla., and he
preceded her in death in 1981. She was a member of Groom
United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school, bible
school, sang in the choir and was an active member of
United Methodist Women.
Survivors include four daughters, Jeanne Morrow and
LaWanda Lee Redd, both of Groom, Yvonne Wetzel of Houston
and Merilyn White of Wichita, Kan.; a son, James H.
Cooper of Elk City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 29
great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to Groom United
Methodist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

Vivian Jaunice O'Neal
Biggs
PANHANDLE - Vivian Jaunice O'Neal Biggs, 85, died
Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Bill Fuller, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery by Minton/Chatwell
Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Biggs was born May 26, 1917, in Texico, N.M. She
graduated from Panhandle High School and attended
Amarillo College. She married Harold D. Biggs on July 3,
1936, in Panhandle. She and her husband were ranchers and
farmers. She was a member of First Baptist Church of
Panhandle and had been a member of Alturian Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; her
parents, Lenard and Ola O'Neal; a brother, Harold V.
O'Neal; and a sister, Virginia O'Neal Hawkinson.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Biggs and wife, Judy, of
Panhandle; a daughter, Jean Walker of Panhandle; a
sister, Lenola Gray of Panhandle; four grandchildren,
Ryan Biggs and wife, Amy, of Frisco, Ric Biggs and Clint
Walker, both of Panhandle, and Sarah Sturm and husband,
Matt, of Bloomington, Ind.; and a great-grandchild, Halee
Biggs of Frisco.
The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church
of Panhandle.

William B.
"Bill" Wood
SKELLYTOWN - William B. "Bill" Wood, 77, died
Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Minton/Chatwell
Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy
Fox, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Amarillo,
officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery of
Pampa.
Mr. Wood was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Webb City, Okla. He
had lived in Skellytown with his wife of 59 years since
1959.
Survivors include his wife, Zelma; a son, William Dale
Wood of Round Rock; two daughters, Shirley Jane Purcell
of Borger and Betty Jean Butler of Amarillo; two
brothers, Thomas C. Wood and Roy J. Wood, both of Fritch;
a sister, Lois Jean Newman of Springdale, Ark.; seven
grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
