John and Mary Williams
submitted by Anna Douglas Madden
John Williams and Mary Agnas Lee were
joined in holy wedlock at Okeene, Oklahoma, on August 9, 1909.
The groom, born on December 22, 1882, was the son of Edward and
Alice Williams of Mashulaville, Mississippi. The bride, born on
August 29, 1892, was the youngest child of Joseph and Annie Lee
of Okeene, Oklahoma.
John and Mary lived in Hennessey, Oklahoma, and later farmed the
land that Mary inherited from her parents east of Okeene. They
were members of the Evening Light Church of God nearby. The
couple had no biological children of their own but raised a
foster son and daughter. The son was killed in World War II.
Late in life, John and Mary moved to Wichita, Kansas, to be near
family, but following their demise, they were returned for burial
in Parvin Cemetery east of Okeene. John passed away on April 26,
1959, and Mary died the summer of 1962.
