The couple was wed in Topeka, Kansas,
on the bride's 21st birthday, Jun 22, 1889.
George and Sarah were both from Nashville, Tennessee. He was born
in May 1861, and she on June 22, 1868.
A few months after the Douglasses were married, they arrived in
Oklahoma Territory and settled on land in Lacey Township that was
homesteaded by Sarah's stepfather, Andrew McClelland. Also in the
group of settlers was Sarah's maternal great grandmother, Marie
Pillow, Sarah's grandparents - Josiah and Evaline Estes (surname
sometimes spelled Estus), and Sarah's mother, Lovie
Estes-Saxton-McClelland.
George and Sarah Douglass had four daughters and two sons: Lovie
Cora Evangeline (1890-1972), Harry Edward (1892-1969), Iola Mae
(1894-1951), Emma Geneva (1896-1942), Myrtle Othella (1897-1968),
and George Dewey Melvin (1898-1978).
Sarah's grandparents (Marie Pillow and the Esteses) were buried
on the McClelland farm after their demise. However, Sarah and her
mother (Lovie McClelland (1849-1921) are interred in Morrison
Cemetery at Lacey. Sarah passed away at age 31 on November 18,
1899, and her husband five years later on Sep 1, 1904. Their
children were raised by Lovie and Andrew McClelland in the Lacey
community.
