of God, Amen. I, JEREMIAH HALSEY, of Bridge Hampton, in the Town
of Southampton, in Suffolk County, being in health of body. I
leave to my son Jeremiah 1/2 of my home lot, the south part, and
to come to the pond for a convenient watering place, with all the
buildings, and 1/3 of the orchard land at Hunttington, and 1/2 of
a 50 right of commonage. I leave to my son Nathan all the
north part of my home lot with the buildings, and 1/3 of the
orchard land at Hunttington, and 1/2 of a 50 right of
commonage. I leave to my son Elijah, my lot of land which I
bought of Scott, lying on the south side of the highway by my
house, bounded east and west by Thomas Sandford, north and south
by highways, And 1/3 of a Lot in the South Division No. 13, and
1/3 of Lot 5, divided with Samuel Ludlam, and 1/3 of the orchard
land at Hunttington, and 2/5 of a 50 right of Commonage;
Also 1/2 of my wind mill, and a loom and tackling. I leave to my
wife Deborah, 20, and bed and bedding. To my two daughters,
Experience and Abigail, 30. My wife and daughters are to
live in the west end of my house. I make my sons executors.
Dated December 20, 1733. Witnesses, Henry Howell, Elihu Howell,
Job Pierson.
Codicil, December 24, 1737. Leaves to his wife and daughters all
his wheat. To son Nathan "an acre of wheat in the
woods." To son Elijah "a piece of serge and my best
leather breeches, and silver shoe buckles." I leave to my
wife the use of my great Bible. To my daughter Jerusha a silver
cup and spoon. To my daughter Mary 2 silver spoons.

[NOTE.--Jeremiah Halsey lived at Mecox, in Bridge Hampton. His
homestead and home lot is probably the homestead now or late of
Charles Carpenter Halsey, and lands adjoining.
"Hunttington," mentioned in the above will, is a
locality in Bridge Hampton, near Scuttle Hole.--W. S. P.]

of God, Amen. I, HENRY HALSEY, of Southampton, in Suffolk County,
farmer, being very sick. I leave to my wife Mary, the use of 1/3
of my lands and meadows as her dower; Also 10 in money. I
leave to my son Fithian Halsey, my house and home lot, and all my
lands and meadows I have in Quiogue neck, and the house
thereupon, and all my lands, meadows, and Commonage west of Canoe
Place, and all my buildings at home and 1/3 of my Commonage east
of Canoe Place; and 1/3 of all New Division lands, both in the
North Side and South Side Divisions commonly called the Great
Divisions, laid out in 1738; Also my North Sea meadow. I leave to
my son, Henry Halsey, my 1/2 of a 30 acre lot which I purchased
of James White, adjoining the land of Abraham Howell, at the west
end; and 1/3 of my Commonage, east of Canoe Place, and 1/3 of my
land in the Great Division. I leave to my son, Jesse Halsey, all
that piece of land called my upper lot in the 40 Acre Division,
adjoining on the south end to the land of Jeremiah Halsey. But I
give 1/2 of my orchard on said land to my son Fithian Halsey, and
the other half to my son Jesse. Also 1/3 of my Commonage east of
Canoe Place, and 1/3 of my Great Division land. All the rest of
my movable estate I leave to my two daughters, Sarah and Keturah,
when 18 years of age. I appoint David Fithian and Theophilus
Howell, executors.

WILL OF JOSIAH HALSEY

of God, Amen. I, JOSIAH HALSEY, of the town of Southampton, in
Suffolk County, being sick in body. I leave to my wife Mary,
"all that part of my now dwelling house where I now live,
with the chamber, garrett, leanto and bedroom, belonging to the
same," and the south half of my barn, stables and hovells,
and an equal privilege of my barn floor with my sons; Also the
use of the south part of my home lot of land, running from the
northeast corner of my north cow yard, westward to the south end
of a ditch between me and Isaac Bower, except 2 poles square of
ground lying before my son Josiah's door. Also the use of the
south part of lot at Scuttle Hole, running from a black oak tree
standing on the north side of my cow yard, and running east to
the souther-most white oak tree standing by the pond, and so from
the said tree into the pond; And also from said black oak tree
standing on the north side of my cow yard, and running westerly
on a straight line to the west end of my land; containing 20
poles in width; Also the use of 1/2 of my meadows and Commonages,
and also my negro man "John," "All these are to
her while she remains my widow and bears up my name;" I also
leave to her 1/2 of my cart, plows, and husbandry tools. My slave
"John" is to be free after the death of my wife. I
leave to my daughter Keziah, 10. To my daughter Martha, my
great wainscott chest and bedding and 15. To my daughter
Elizabeth a bed and bedding, and my great rugg, and my great
chest, and my broad box and small tables, and 30. To my
daughter Mary, a feather bed, and rugg, a chest and a small box
standing in the bed room, and 15. My daughters Elizabeth
and Mary are to have free benefit to live in my now dwelling
house so long as they are unmarried, and to have full privilege
of my well. After my wife's decease, all my houses, lands,
meadows and commonages are to go to my son, Josiah Halsey, and I
make him sole executor; and I appoint my beloved friends, John
Howell, Esq., and Hugh Gelston, merchant, and Thomas Reed,
school-master, Overseers in trust.
Dated April 10, 1732, in the 5th year of His Majesty's reign.

WILL OF DANIEL HALSEY

of God, Amen, February 21, 1733/4. I, DANIEL HALSEY, of the town
of Southampton, in Suffolk County, being very sick. I leave to my
wife Mary, the use of the east half of my dwelling house, where
my son Daniel now lives, that is to say, that half part as it is
now finished; Also the chamber and Garrett, and leanto below; and
1/2 the well and barn, and 1/3 of my movable estate; and the use
of 1/3 of my lands during her life. Also my negro woman
"Lesser." I leave to my son Daniel Halsey, the other
half of my dwelling house and all my lands adjoining to the same,
called the Homestead, after my wife's decease; Also my close of
land called the Wood Close, lying adjoining to John Sayre and
Christopher Foster, And 1/2 of all my lands and meadows at
Quioge, and 1/2 of my undivided lands and commonage throughout
the bounds of the town; and my acre of land at Halseys neck, and
my orchard at Seven Ponds, and all other lands not herein
mentioned; And my son Daniel shall pay to my son Silas, 10,
when he is of age. I leave to my son, Henry Halsey, my close of
land lying at Scuttle Hole, being 20 acres; bounded by Theophilus
Howell, Josiah Topping, and David Fithian, and the dwelling house
and buildings thereon; Also my other close at Scuttle Hole, being
32 acres, bounded by Benjamin Woodruff and Daniel Hedges, and
undivided lands; Also 1/2 of my land and meadow at Quioge, and
1/2 of my undivided lands and commonage, And all my meadow on the
beach, and my meadow at Brushy Neck; And he is to pay to his
brother Silas, 10. I leave to my son Silas Halsey all my
personal estate, after the payment of debts. I leave to my
daughter Amy, 10. I make my sons Daniel and Henry
executors.

[NOTE.--Daniel Halsey lived at Wickapogue, near Southampton
Village. The homestead is still owned by his descendants, and is
one of the very few places which have been handed down from
father to son, since the original laying out in 1640.--W. S. P.]

HALSEY, Southampton. "I Thomas Halsey, being in a right mind
and sound judgment," leaves to wife, "one woollen wheel
and one linnen wheel, my little Iron Pott, and a Yellow Rugg, and
one white Dutch blanket, and 4 bushels of wheate to be paid
yearly, as long as she liveth, and 4 sheep." Leaves to son
Thomas, "my house and home lot, and the beach lot, and the
Little Plain close, and the little close on the south side of Mr.
Raynor's, commonly called Troublesome, and the close at the mill
neck called Peter's close, and the lot I had in the last Division
at Meacocks." Leaves to son Isaac, "my close at the
head of the creek, and 5 acres adjoining, and 5 acres in the
Great Plain in the ten acre lots, and 3 acres at the town pond,
and 10 acres in the ox pasture, and the Gin lots, and 4 1/2 acres
in the Little Plain, and 20 acres in the next Division, and he is
to have his choice out of my 300 of Commonage in lieu of
the land at Sagapanack." The remainder of all Divisions is
to be divided equally between my sons Thomas and Daniel, and Hog
neck to be divided also. Isaac is also to have the lot of meadow
at Seponack on the north side, and one acre at Halsey's neck, and
half the meadow on the south beach, the other half to my son
Daniel. Leaves to son Daniel, one lot of meadow at Seponack, and
the eastermost two acres in the Little Plain, and the home lot I
bought of Mr. Smith, my land at Quogue and North side, and Hog
Neck, to be divided equally between my sons. Legacy to daughter
Elizabeth, wife of Richard Howell.
Dated July 28, 1677. Proved March, 1679. Witnesses, Richard
Barrett, John Else. The sons Isaac and Thomas were confirmed as
executors July 8, 1679.

Widow of Thomas Halsey, Jr.
Southampton, Long Island, New York
Dated Dec. 18, 1699 - Proved Dec. 20, 1699
In the name of God Amen. I Mary Halsey late relict of Thomas
Halsey of ye town of S'hampton late deceased being very sick
& weak in body but in sound memory Expecting every day to put
off this mortal body do make & ordain this to be my last will
& testamt. in manner & form following -
I give & freely bequeath my soul to God who at first gave it
to me and my body after decent buriel to ye earth from whence it
was taken and for my worldly estate I dispose of it as followth,
(viz) -
1st I give & bequeath unto my grandson Ammy Resco one two
year old heifer & four sheep -
2nd I give & bequeath unto my four grandaughters namely Mary
Hand, Eunice Howell, Elizabeth Moore & Zerviah Howell each of
them twenty shillings in money one silver spoon one pr. of sheets
one pewter plate two napkins one pillow drawer and one sheep -
3rd I give & bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Moore ye best
rug & a white kersey blanket & a new chest -
4th I give & bequeath unto my daughter Hannah Howell a brass
kettle, hetchill, Iron skellit, a green rugge a white fitted
blanket, a pr. of stillyards & an iron bound chest -
5th I give & bequeath unto my daughter Phebe Halsey three
pound in money one silver spoon one pewter plate one sheep one
pr. of sheets one pillow drawer two napkins and nine of ye
fifteen cattle in ye hands of my son Nathaniel Halsey in
proportion for value that is to say nine fifteenths of the sd
fifteen cattle and two beds and two bolsters and two pillows of
one of the beds she hath in possession and the other feather bed
I now lie on and great bedstead a green rug a great iron Kettle
and peile trammell & warming pan and iron mortar & a
frying pan a brass skillet & a great chest and a little chest
& a pair of tongues -
6th I give & bequest unto my daughter Abigail Howell three
pounds in money one silver spoon one pewter plate & one sheep
one pr. of sheets one pillow drawer two napkins a brass pot and a
trammell & peile in Nathaniel's hands the two last
particulars -
7th I give & bequeath unto my son Nathaniel Halsey one
feather bed one iron pot and cupboard & a great table and
half ye grindstone all in his hands already the other half of the
grindstone I give unto my son Josiah Halsey -
8th I give unto my five sons namely Josiah, Isaac, David,
Jeremiah and Nathaniel Halsey five cattle in ye hands of the sd
Nathaniel Halsey to be equally divided between them and my timber
chain to be used amongst them five -
9th my will is yt. all other household stuff belonging to me of
what nature or kind and wheresoever to be found to be divided
between my daughter Phebe Halsey & Abigail Howell equally and
that my wearing apparel linen & woolen & silk to be
equally divided among my five daughters namely Mary Howell, Sarah
Moore, Hannah Howell, Phebe Halsey & Abigail Howell -
10th I do by these presents constitute ordain & appoint my
sons Isaac & David Halsey Executors of this my last Will
& testamt. to receive all my estate & first pay all my
just debts and then the abovesd brequests and legacies and the
rest of my estate to be divided equally between my two Executors
four pound of the sd money above bequeathed is in ye hands of my
son Nathaniel Halsey -
And for ye full confirmation of this my last will & testamt I
have hereunto set my hand & seal in S'hampton aforesd this 18
day of December Anno Dom 1699.

By the tenor of these presents know ye that on ye 21 day of May
Anno Dom 1700 at ye Manor of St. Georges in ye County of Suffolk
before the Honorble Coll. William Smith Judge of the Prerogative
Court in ye sd County was proved & approved the last will
& testamt. of Mary Halsey late of S'hampton in ye sd. County
deceased on ye 20th day of Dec. Anno Dom 1699 who by her said
Will & testamt. did nominate & appoint her sons Isaac
& David Halsey her Executors to whom was granted the
administration of the goods & chattels of ye sd deceased.

WILL OF ISAAC HALSEY
Southhampton, Suffolk County, NY
Dated: January 10, 1751/52 Proven: June 9, 1757
In the name of God, Amen. I, ISAAC HALSEY, of the town of
Southampton, in Suffolk County, farmer, being well in health. All
debts and legacies to be paid within convenient time.
"I leave to my wife MARY 20, also the use of the west
room in my dwelling house and 100 weight of good Pork, and 100
weight of good Beef, and 1 cow, and the cow to be foddered and
drove seasonably to Pasture," "Also 6 bushels of good
wheat, 6 bushels of Indian Corn, 3 loads of firewood, and all the
butter and cheese in the house that is of her own make."
I leave to my son EPHRAIM the use of all the lands and meadows
which I have at Onuck during his life, and no longer, Also 20
shillings, and if my son EPHRAIM dies before his wife, she shall
have the use of 1/2 of said lands and meadows and buildings so
long as she remains his widow and bears up his name.
I leave to my son, CORNELIUS HALSEY, all my lands and meadows in
Pine Neck, and all my lands, meadows, buildings, and Commonage
east of Tianah and Red Creek, to the east bounds of the town,
Also all my lands, meadows, and buildings which I have at Potunk,
including the land in the Upper Division lying against it, Also
my 3 eastermost 50 lots in the New Division lying against
Onuck, Also a 50 right of land in Quioge in the Upper
Division, And 1/2 of my manor land, and 1/2 of my Commonage west
of Tiana.
I leave to my grandson, SILVANUS HALSEY, all my lands, meadows,
and buildings which I have at Speonk, also all my lands, meadows,
and buildings which I have at Onuck, including the Upper Division
lying against the Neck, except the three 50s given to his
brother, Also 1/2 of my manor land and 1/2 my Commonage west of
Tiana, and 2/3 of a lot at Quioge, Also
all the money that is due to me from SAMUEL CHARD for rent.
I leave to my grand son, TIMOTHY BIGELOW, 10.
To my grandson, ISAAC BIGELOW, 20 shillings.
To my three granddaughters, ELIZABETH SPENCER and ABIGAIL and
MARY BIGELOW, 20 shillings each.
To my granddaughter, ABIGAIL ELY, 20.
To my grand daughter, MARY HALSEY, 20.
After payment of all debts and legacies, I leave all the rest to
my grand sons, CORNELIUS and STEPHEN HALSEY, and I make them
executors. Dated January 10, 175 1/2. Witnesses, JEDIDIAH HOWELL,
RICHARD HOWELL, ABRAM HALSEY. Proved, June 9, 1757.

WILL OF DAVID HALSEY
Southhampton, Suffolk County, NY
Dated: October 4, 1729 Proven: October 14, 1732
In the name of God, Amen, October 4, 1729. I, DAVID HALSEY, of
Southampton, in Suffolk County, being weak in body.
I leave to my son, ABRAHAM HALSEY, all my houses, lands, and
Commonage, except as herein reserved. And he is to pay to my wife
20 "in produce of the lands as it passeth to the
market."
To my daughter ABIGAIL 5 shillings, "for she hath received
her portion already."
To my daughter HANNAH 50, ten pounds in money and the rest
in movable effects.
To my daughter MEHETHEBEL 50.
My wife HANNAH is to have the use of ½ of my lands, and the west
end of my dwelling house, and half my barn, and 1/2 the movable
effects, "including both my negroes," and I make her
executor.
Witnesses, HEZEKIAH HOWELL,THEOPILUS HOWELL,MARTIN ROSE. Proved,
October 14, 1732.

WILL OF NATHANIEL HALSEY
Southhampton, Suffolk County, NY
Dated: March 27, 1745 Proven: April 18, 1746
In the name of God, Amen. I, NATHANIEL HALSEY, of Southampton in
Suffolk County, farmer, being well in health. I leave to my son,
RECOMPENCE HALSEY , all my houses and lands at Meacox, and 1/2 of
a lot of meadow at Accabog in Jumping Neck, which I bought of
EDWARD HOWELL, as by deed.
I leave to my two grand sons, ANANSIS and ISAREL HALSEY, 10
each.
I leave to my son,
ELISHA HALSEY, all that my lot of land called the Blank lot; Also
my lot of land adjoining to it, called Roberts Lot; And one lot
at North Side which I bought of JONAH ROGERS, and also 10 poles
wide into the lot I bought of MR. TOPPING, that is, 10 poles wide
at the west end, and but 2 poles wide at the water hole, and is
on the south side of the lot, joining to his other land; Also all
my meadow at Shinecock; Also all my meadow on the east side of
Jumping Neck; And 1/2 my commonage.
I leave to my son NATHANIEL all my homestead and buildings, that
is, my land, meadow, and buildings, at Cobb; And my lot called
Jonathan's Lot; Also all my land called Conklings Neck; And the
rest of my land at North side, bought of MR. TOPPING. Also one
50 right in Lot 29, Great South Division. Also a lot of
meadow at the bottom of Jumping Neck called Rapahanock; And two
lots at Red creek Neck, which I bought of SAMUEL BISHOP and ISAAC
BOWER; And all my right of land and meadow which I have lying
with widow MARTHA HALSEY, that is west of Canoe Place; And 1/2
50 right of Commonage, east of Canoe Place.
I leave to my son,
EZEKIEL HALSEY, all my piece of land at Littleworth, called
Rogers Close, and 1 lot and 2/3 of a lot of meadow on the west
side of Jumping Neck, which I bought of MR.LUDLAM and Mr.
SANFORD.
I leave to each of my daughters (not named) 10s. To my son
NATHANIEL, my plow, cart, and ox chain. I leave to my wife the
use of 1/3 of all lands and meadows given to my son NATHANIEL,
and 1/2 the house and barn. If any of my sons wish to sell, they
shall give the rest the preference.
Dated March 27, 1745. Witnesses, ELLIS COOK, EZEKIEL ROSE,
JONATHAN HALSEY. Proved, April 18, 1746. Wife ANNA and ABRAM
HALSEY, executors.
