GERTRUDE SCOTT 

Gertrude Scott, 95, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at the Rosewood Health Center, where she lived. 

Mrs. Scott was born in Craig, Okla., and had lived in this area for the past 26 years. She had been a pastry cook for various restaurants for many years. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Scott in 1953, a daughter, Delma in 1929, and a grandson, Robert S. Anderson in 1991. 

Her survivors include one daughter, Margaret 'Bunny' Anderson, Lee's Summit; four grandchildren, Paul Anderson, Lee's Summit, Lisa Colman, Belton, Mo., Kathy Key, Phoenix, Ariz., and Judy Van Biber, Independence; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to The Salvation Army. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

GRACE V. DAVIDSON 

Grace Victoria Davidson, 98, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Davidson was born Sept. 21, 1901, in Boston. She was retired from the Eastern Jackson County Democratic Party. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle D. Davidson in 1977, a son, James S. Davidson in 1971, and a granddaughter, Ms. Jerry Stark in 1999. 

Her survivors include two grandsons, Doyle D. Davidson III, Evansville, Wyo., and James S. Davidson Jr., Blue Springs; nine great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.

DOROTHY L. CARR 

Dorothy Louise Carr, 77, Gravois Mills, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Versailles, Mo. 

Mrs. Carr was born July 23, 1922, in Leslie, Ark. She was a retired grocery clerk, and was a member of the Retail Clerks Union. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000 Ladies Auxiliary. 

Her survivors include her husband of 57 years, William L. Carr of the home; two sons, John Dennis Carr, Independence, and Ronald Carr, Springfield, Mo.; one daughter, Patricia Truman, Independence; one brother, Bob Watts, Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Frances Knabe, Grain Valley; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

POMPA W. 'JACK' ABLES 

Pompa W. 'Jack' Ables, 67, Lincoln, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at Bothwell Regional Health Center, Sedalia, Mo. 

Mr. Ables was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Evening Shade, Ark., and lived in the Independence area for 21 years. He moved to Lincoln in 1995 when he retired from the Coca Cola Bottling Co. 

His survivors include his wife, Roberta Ables of the home; three sons, Jack Ables, Lebo, Kan., Gary Ables, New Iberia, La., and Neal Ables, Lake Lotawana; a stepson, Ed Sinclair, Independence; his father, Neal O'Dell, Burlington, Kan.; and seven grandchildren. 

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

APRIL HARRIS 

April Harris, infant daughter of Michelle and Quentin Harris of Kansas City, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. 

April is also survived by her grandparents, Hellen Simmons, Goodwater, Ala., and Linda and Damon Harris III, Blue Springs; and her great-grandparents, Hazel Harris, Monticello, Ark., and Mae Catherine English, Marvel, Ark. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blue Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

THOMAS R. MEANS 

Thomas Ray Means, 56, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at his home. 

Mr. Means was born March 25, 1943, in Clinton, Mo. He was a driver for Blue Springs Truck Line. He was a member of Plaza Heights Baptist Church, Blue Springs, and was a deacon and active in the Men's Ministry. He had been an active deacon in Baptist churches of which he had been a member since 1976. He was a 1961 graduate of Clinton High School. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and a Sharpshooters Badge. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fly fishing. 

His survivors include his wife, Linda Kay Means of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Means, Austin, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Bryan, Lee's Summit; one sister, Shirley Jean Evans, Sedalia, Mo.; one brother, Alan Kelly Means, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one grandson, Coleman Means of Austin. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton.

CHARLES H. STOBAUGH 

Charles H. Stobaugh, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Stobaugh was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Triplett, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 10 years. He was a laborer in air craft manufacturing for American Airlines. He was an Army veteran of World War II. 

His survivors include two sisters, Jo Anne Branstuder, Triplett, and Thelma Kipp, Independence; three brothers, LeRoy Stobaugh and Dale Alvin Stobaugh, both of Triplett, and John Stobaugh, Grand Lake, Colo. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel.

RICHARD J. "DICK" SETTER 

Richard Joseph "Dick" Setter, 77, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, in North Kansas City. 

Mr. Setter was born March 17, 1922, in Ottawa, Kan. He served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. He was a pilot during World War II. He retired from Allied Signal in 1982 after more than 20 years of employment. He was a retired member of the S.M.E. He was a member of St. John Francis Regis Church. 

His survivors include his wife, Clara Setter of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Marlene and Richard Setter Jr., Lawson, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Don Shegrud, Kansas City, and Loretta and Don Lackey, Dayton, Ohio; two sisters, Bernetta Payne, Mission, Kan., and Delores Hanks, Blue Springs; grandchildren, Pam, Charlie, Brianna and Sonya; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Jocelyn. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Saint Regis Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the Carson Funeral Home, 9100 Blue Ridge Boulevard, where the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m.

IRA E. DOURTY 

Ira Edward Dourty, 67, Clinton, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton. 

Mr. Dourty was born April 1, 1932, in Independence, and lived in Independence, Holden, Mo., and Brownington, Mo., before moving to Clinton three years ago. He worked as a general laborer. He was reared and educated in Independence. 

His survivors include two brothers, Donald Dourty, Independence, and David Dourty, Clinton; and several nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services and burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holden Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home, Holden.

FREDDIE C. MORGAN JR. 

Freddie C. Morgan Jr., 46, Buckner, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999. 

Mr. Morgan was born June 26, 1953, in Hannibal, Mo. He was a master plumber and had owned and operated Mid America Plumbing in Independence for the last eight years. 

His survivors include his wife, Joyce Morgan of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dawn and Billy Frey, Kansas City, and Jill Morgan of the home; two brothers, John Morgan, Clark, Mo., and Rusty Morgan, Higbee, Mo.; a sister, Ruth Coffelt, Macon, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Lillian and Earnest Gillispie, Moberly; and a grandson, Tyler Frey. 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

A. FRED POHLMAN 

A. Fred Pohlman, 71, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Research Medical Center. 

Mr. Pohlman was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Natoma, Kan., where he lived before moving to Columbia, Mo. He then moved to Vandalia, Mo., where he taught and coached basketball, moving to Kansas City in 1959. He taught and coached basketball and cross country at Westport and Northeast high schools in Kansas City until 1966. He then was an instructor and coach with Penn Valley Community College for the past 33 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of American Legion Post 21 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000. He was a member of the Raytown Optimist and the Greater Kansas City Basketball Coaches Association. He was a charter member of the Family Life Center of Ascension Lutheran Church. 

His survivors include his wife, Carol Pohlman of the home; one son, Charles William Pohlman, and a daughter Tamara Dotson, both of Kansas City; two brothers, Henry Pohlman, Russell, Kan., and George Pohlman, Santa Ana, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Aubrey Elise Pohlman. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, 4900 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church.

STEVE A. ZIEGELMANN 

Steve A. Ziegelmann, 47, Lee's Summit, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital. 

Mr. Ziegelmann was born May 22, 1952, in Kansas City. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1970 and was employed by Hallmark Cards for 29 years. 

His survivors include his wife of 19 years, Linda Arel Ziegelmann of the home and their children, Carrie Ann and Mandy Ziegelmann, his daughter, Tony Cook, his son, Stephen Ziegelmann, his grandchildren, Blake, Ross, Daniel, Austin and Nathan and his mother, Doris L. Jones. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Steve A. Ziegelmann Memorial Fund for his daughters' education.

F. Marie Simpson, 52, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at her home. 

Mrs. Simpson was born Feb. 10, 1947, in Lynn County, Mo. She grew up in Missouri and lived in Neenah, Wis., for several years before returning to Kansas City. 

Her survivors include her husband, Robert Simpson of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Tami and Keith Dowdle, Blue Springs, and Tiffany A. Simpson; two sons, Ryan Patrick Simpson and Rudy Patrick Simpson, both of North Kansas City; six sisters, Diana Tippins, Florida, Faye Hunsucker, Independence, Pam-ela Gibson, Paula Hockensmith and Donna Carter, all of Kansas City, and Debra Hunsaker, Kingston, Mo.; two brothers, David Wright, Independence, and Jerry Wright, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; parents, Andy and Margaret Garrett and Julia Bush; and three grandchildren, Stephen Woodall II, Heather Dowdle and Brittany Dowdle.

RAYMOND A. REED 

Raymond Andrew Reed, 91, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at his home. 

Mr. Reed was born Sept. 22, 1908, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a steelworker and a former member of the Steelworkers Union. 

His survivors include his three sons, John Reed, Blue Springs, James Reed, Independence, and David Reed, of Washington; a daughter, Mary Redman, Independence; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

JOSEPH SISKEY 

Joseph Daniel Siskey, 49, of Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Siskey was born July 2, 1950, in St.Joseph, Mo. He also lived in Richmond, Mo., and Springfield, Mo., before moving to Independence nine years ago. 

He was a member of the Air National Guard for more than 20 years and worked as an area manager for Southwestern Bell for 31 years. 

Suvivors include his wife, Leslie V. Siskey, a daughter, Vanessa Siskey and a step-son, Jason High, all of the home; two other sons, Jon Siskey of San Antonio, Texas, and Justin Siskey of Cherry Point N.C.; a sister, Kathryn Spafford of St, Joseph; a grandaughter, Olivia Siskey; and his maternal grandmother, Ramona Canchola of St. Joseph. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence. A rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Cancer Action Inc., 1831 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan.

YVONNE CARPENTER 

Yvonne J. Carpenter, 88, formerly of Blue Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at a hospital in Tucson, Ariz. 

Mrs. Caprenter was born March 10, 1911, in Willimantic, Conn. She worked as a food service manager and was a life member of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary in Rhode Island. 

She was preceded in death by her husband John Carpenter. 

Survivors include four daughters, Dorothy Dill and Jacqueline M. Zades, both of Blue Springs, Barbara Vander Linden, Tucson, and Anita Sousa, Rumford, R.I.; one son, Ronald R. Carpenter, Lake Villa, Ill.; and a sister, Helen Sandimeier, West Kingston, R.I.; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. 

Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St.John LaLande Catholic Church in Blue Springs. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home.

LORAN B. GUM 

Loran Bruce Gum, 67, Blue Springs, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mr. Gum was born March 11, 1932, in Kansas City. He was a printing technician before retiring 10 years ago. 

His survivors include his wife, Lucille Gum of the home; two sisters, Margaret Calbert and Shirley Driver; one brother, Walter Gum; four children, Debbie Norris, Barbara Schroeder, Michael Gum and Elizabeth Gray; 11 stepchildren; 28 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

Services were today at the Swam Lake Memorial Chapel of Memories, Grain Valley.

KATHRYN I. McMULLEN 

Kathryn I. McMullen, 87, Independence, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at the Rosewood Health Care Center. 

Mrs. McMullen was born July 19, 1912, in Kansas City. She was a member of the Pacific Heights congregation of Jehovah Witness. Her husband, Leon L. McMullen, died in 1978. 

Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred L. and Kathy McMullen, and Gary L. and Janette McMullen, all of Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Gary Dunn, Effingham, Ill.; two sisters, Edna Mae Gutridge and Viola H. Stears, both of Independence; grandchildren, Tracey and Brian McDermott, Milton, Fla., and Heather and Brian Mills, and Shaw and Tiffany McMullen, all of Blue Springs; two great-grandsons, Michael and Justin McMullen; and three adopted grandchildren, Charlotte, Charrisa and Noah.

FREDERICK M. HANSEN 

Frederick M. Hansen, 95, Independence, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at the Groves Retirement Center in the Rosewood section. 

Mr. Hansen had lived most of his life in the McClelland and Council Bluffs, Iowa, area. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva, and two sons, Roland and Franklin. 

His survivors include two grandchildren, Lisa Hansen and Tony Hansen, and a great-granddaughter, Melanie Smith, all of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Friends may call until 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
