Eunice V. Rose, 72, Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at her home. 

Mrs. Rose was born March 12, 1927, in Abilene, Texas. She was a member of Mount Washington Baptist Church. 
Her survivors include five sons, William Robert Rose, Kansas City, Thomas Glenn Rose, Chicago, James Marion Rose and Peter Wayne Rose, both of Independence, and Roy Leon Rose, St. Louis; one daughter, Linda Helen Rose, Independence; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

KATHERINE M. KARNS 

Katherine M. Karns, 80, Lee's Summit, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit. 

Mrs. Karns was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Independence. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and its Altar Society. Her husband, Fred J. Karns Sr., died in 1983. 

Her survivors include two sons, Fred J. Karns Jr., Lee's Summit, and Richard L. Karns, Kansas City; and six grandchildren. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the Carson Funeral Home Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

M. DEE GOSSETT 

Mary Dee Gossett, 61, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mrs. Gossett was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Liberty, Mo. She was a member of the 1956 North Kansas City semi-pro women's basketball team "The Hellcats." She was a homemaker, and head cashier at the Old Country Buffet in Independence for more than 10 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Joe Gossett in 1973. 

Her survivors include her husband, John A. Gossett of the home; two sons, Jack R. Gossett, Dallas, and Douglas Gossett, Geneva, Switzerland; five sisters, Betty Spry and Linda Plummer, both of Polo, Mo., Georgia-Ann "Sis" Lawson and Dorthy Lingle, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Virginia "Jenny" McComb-mas, Lawson, Mo.; one brother, Tom Farris, Independence; and five grandchildren, Aaron Tolen, and Jereme, Taylor, Jacklyn and Maya Gossett. 

Cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley, where a memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

James Lenox Evans, 47, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Liberty Hospital. 

Mr. Evans was born in Waynesville, Mo., and had lived in the area for the past 11 years. He was a senior field consultant with MO/KS Region IBP Inc. for the past eight years. 

His survivors include his wife, Carol L. Evans, Blue Springs; two daughters, Sarah E. Evans, Eldon, Mo., and Lindsey M. Nelson, Blue Springs; his parents, Harry and Vernita Evans, and one sister, Sharlene Pietsch, all of Rolla, Mo.; a niece, Christa M. Copp; and a nephew, Eric E. Pietsch.

Peggy E. Martin, 92, Oak Grove, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Wichita, Kan. 

Mrs. Martin was born July 20, 1907, in Pomeroy, Wash. She was a homemaker, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, and the Oak Grove Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harvey Martin on Jan. 16, 1989, and a grandson, Mike Martin. 

Her survivors include two sons, Donald W. Martin, Prescott, Ariz., and Jim D. Martin, Wichita; five grandchildren, Rick Martin, Victoria Rees, Sherrill Geisman, Paul Martin and Tim Martin; 11 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

VELMA C. HOBBS 

Velma C. Hobbs, 92, Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at her home. 

Mrs. Hobbs was born March 27, 1907, in Nokomis, Ill. She was a homemaker, and was of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Her husband, James A. Hobbs, died in 1986. 

Her survivors include two sons, Al Hobbs, Poplar Bluff, and Dr. Donald Hobbs, Topeka; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, LaVon McClintock, Independence.

DONALD T. FOOTE 

Donald Thomas Foote, 59, Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at his home. 

Mr. Foote was born Aug. 25, 1940, in Pleasant Hill, Mo., and lived in Pleasant Hill in his early years, spending most of his life in the south Kansas City area. He worked for McDonald Auto Body in Independence for many years. He had also worked for the Independence Cab Co. He was a Baptist by faith, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 385. He was preceded in death by two children, Donnie Foote and Tracy Brown. 

His survivors include his wife, Helen King Foote of the home; one son, Shannon Foote, Bellevue, Neb.; three daughters, Donnita Lawrence, Henryetta, Okla., Terresa Jackson and husband, Troy, and Patricia Donnici and husband, Mike, all of Independence; two stepsons, Michael King and Joe King, both of Kansas City; two brothers, Ronald Foote, Midland, Texas, and Robert Foote, Pleasant Hill; one sister, Charlene Kessler, Northfield, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. 

Services were today at the Stanley & Son Funeral Home, Pleasant Hill. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

MARTHA KINNAMAN HLADKY 

Martha Kinnaman Hladky, 87, Morrison, Colo., died Dec. 4, 1999, in Morrison. 

Mrs. Hladky was born February 22, 1911, in Rawlins, Wyo. She received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming, and worked as a second grade school teacher. 

She was also a member of the Tri Delta Sorority, and Chapter CV of the PEO. 

She married her husband, Fred Hladky, on October 19, 1943. He preceded her in death. 

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and William Sunderland, Independence, and Sue and Ronald Marley, Morrison, Colo.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Ginny Kinnaman, Chatham, N.J. 

Cremation is under the direction of the Aspen Mortuaries.

TENA F. PALLETTE 

Tena F. Pallette, 64, Odessa, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at her home. 

Mrs. Pallette was born Oct. 9, 1935, and lived in the Emma and Concordia, Mo., areas before moving to Odessa in 1954. She had been the business office administrator for Edward Jones in the Odessa office since 1996 . She formerly was a bookkeeper for Mowett Sales in Odessa from 1978 to 1996, and had been a tax preparer for Barnett Insurance and Real Estate Co. in Odessa. She was a member of the Evangelical Church in Emma. She was a 1953 graduate of Higginsville (Mo.) High School, was a member of Business Office Administrator's Club with Edward Jones, and a former member of the Shaw Extension Club, Odessa. 

Her survivors include her husband, Jesse M. 'Bud' Pallette of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Delbert and Stephanie Pallette, Odessa; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Benny Nutt, Parkville, Mo.; a half sister, Esther Lee Gassen, Prairie Village, Kan.; two stepmothers, Edna Keith, Odessa, and Cleo Hillebrand, Boliver, Mo.; and three grandchildren

CURTIS CORNFORTH 

Curtis Cornforth, 85, Olathe, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at the Olathe Medical Center. 

Mr. Cornforth was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Cimarron, Kan. He had been vice president/general manager of Holsum Foods, and had been a member and on the board of directors of the National Margarine Association. He was a Coast Guard veteran, and a 1932 graduate of Blue Springs High School.

WALLIS D. CANADAY 

Wallis D. Canaday, 60, Lone Jack, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at his home. 

Mr. Canaday was born Dec. 14, 1938, in Madison, Mo. In 1964, he began a 35 year career as a State Farm Insurance agent in Independence, and was a member of the Missouri Life Underwriters Association. He was an active member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He was a former Boy Scout leader and an avid sportsman. He was currently serving as an alderman and chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for Lone Jack. 

His survivors include his wife, Janeth E. Sanders Canaday of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cynthia Canaday, Woodstock, Ga., and Stephen and Shelley Canaday, Lee's Summit; grandchildren, Julia, Tressa, Patrick, Samantha, Andrew and Brenan; one sister, Bonnie Blades, Moberly, Mo.; one brother, Leonard Canaday Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Stanley Plisowski, 75, Kansas City, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at his home.

RAYMOND H. FLOWERS 

Raymond Henry Flowers, 86, Lamoni, Iowa, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Flowers was born Feb. 23, 1913, in Willow Creek Township of Pierce County, Neb., and lived in the Council Bluffs, Iowa, area until 1945 when he moved to the Lamoni area. He was a farmer for many years before working at the Lamoni Packing Plant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola 'Vi' Rollins Flowers, an infant son, Larry, and a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Deva. 

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Leroy and Joanne Flowers, Independence; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leila 'Lee' and Delbert Main, Polo, Mo., and Donna Flowers Adams and husband, Jim, Lamoni; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Barney Flowers, Cody, Wyo., and Everett Flowers, Lamoni; one sister, Mildred Chambers, Red Oak, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Swaim, 67, Odessa, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mrs. Swaim was born June 9, 1932, in Lowell, Mass., and lived in Independence from 1959 until moving to Odessa in 1995. She had been a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1000 Women's Auxiliary for the past 35 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Swaim in 1976. 

Her survivors include her husband of 46 years, Glen Swaim of the home; three daughters, Brenda Neidel, Buckner, Cheryl Wallen, Bates City, and Donna Laky, Odessa; one sister, Rita Bourassa, Pinellas Park, Fla.; two brothers, Norman Lavigne, Dracut, Mass., and Raymond Lavigne, Lowel, Mass.; six grandchildren, Cicily, Andy, Lacey, Emilie, Shirley and Patrick; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Alicisha.
