MANSEL M. BAILEY
Mansel M. Bailey, 90, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at the Maywood Terrace Living Center.
Mr. Bailey was born Aug. 20, 1907, in Lynley, Mo., and had lived most of his life in the Independence area. He retired from ARMCO Steel. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Steel Workers Union. He was a Methodist. His wife, Ruby L. Bailey, died in 1993.
His survivors include a son, William Bailey, Sugar Creek; a daughter, Willa Dene Fisher, Tecumseh, Mo.; a sister, Velma Hudson, Raytown; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

RAYMOND "BOB" G. FANNING SR.
Raymond "Bob" G. Fanning Sr., 55, Sugar Creek, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Fanning was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Milo, Mo. He retired from General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant in 1989 after 274 years of service. He was a member of the Centropolis Baptist Church. His survivors include his wife, Reva F. Fanning of the home; two sons, Raymond G. Fanning, Jr., and Stanley L. Fanning, both of Independence; a daughter, Christine L. Kirkpatrick, Independence; four brothers, Ivan Fanning, Fort Worth, Norvell Fanning, Independence, Dwight Fanning, Nevada, Mo., and Melvin Fanning,Bucyrus, Mo.; three sisters, Roberta Handyside, West Seneca, N.Y., Louetta Whiteside, Nevada, and Marjorie Swanson, Higginsville, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Centropolis Baptist Church, 1410 White, Kansas City. Private graveside services will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Newcomer`s SonsFloral Hills Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Centropolis Baptist Church.

BETTY M. FERRELL
Betty M. Ferrell, 75, Buckner, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Ferrell was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Princeville, Ill., and moved to Buckner in 1986. She was a registered nurse at Belwood Nursing Home in Peoria, Ill.
Her survivors include two sons, Charles D. Kirkbride, Bartonville, Ill., and Donovan K. Ferrell, Buckner; a daughter, Trilba A. Loveall, Buckner; two brothers, Wilber R. Case, Magna, Utah, and Donald P. Case, East Peoria, Ill.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence.

JIM H. FREELAND
Jim H. Freeland, 67, Raytown, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at the Baptist Medical Center.
Mr. Freeland was born June 11, 1930, in Boise, Idaho. He retired in 1975 from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant after 26 years of service, including tours during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He then worked for Vulcon Technologies in Grandview, Mo. He was a member of the American Legion.
His survivors include his wife, Norma J. Freeland of the home; three sons, Steve Van Veen and Brian Van Veen, both of Independence, and Chuck Van Veen, Kansas City; two daughters, Susan Ladner, San Diego, Calif., and Linda Van Veen, Shawnee, Kan.; two sisters; and seven grandchildren.
Cremation, with arrangements under the direction of Park Lawn Funeral Home.

WILMA I. HAMILTON
Wilma Imogene Hamilton, 74, Overland Park, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, Ga.
She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Knifetown, Kan., and had lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was a 1940 graduate of Northeast High School. She retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. after many years.
Her survivors include her children, Everett Lynn Rothrock, Tucson, Ariz., Jerry Eugene Rothrock, McLean, Va., Jean Annette Bloom, Peachtree City, Ga., David Allen Rothrock, Pine Top, Ariz., Carol Sue Carter, Lake Quivera, Kan., and Cheryl Lou Steinbrecher, Overland Park; two brothers, Meredith Hamilton, Plano, Texas,and Maynard Hamilton, Locust Grove, Va.; four sisters, Reba Kenley and Judy Hamilton, both of Independence, Eileen Denney, Bella Vista, Ariz., and Sharon Wentz, Kansas City; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Holmeswood Baptist Church, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association.

LINDA LINDELL
Linda Lindell, 55, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at St. Joseph`s Hospital.
Mrs. Lindell was born in Chicago and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was a graduate of Purdue University. She and her mother, Ruth Zimmer, operated Communications II public relations business in Independence. Later she did free lance in promotions and commercial advertising.
Her survivors include her two daughters, Celeste Lindell Allyn and Leah Lindell of Kansas City; her parents, Ruth and Robert Zimmer, Wildwood, Fla.; a brother, Kirk Zimmer, Kansas City; and a sister, Barbara Holter, Lawrence.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Longview Chapel, Longview. Cremation.

FOREST G. STARR
Forest Glenn Starr, 79, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Truman Valley Health Care, Windsor, Mo.
Mr. Starr was born Aug. 13, 1918, in Orrick, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area until moving to Windsor in 1993. He was a fork lift operator at Fisher-Body General Motors Assembly Plant in Leads, retiring in the late 1970s. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include a son, Larry G. Starr, Campbell, Ky.; a daughter, Carol Pinto, Temple, Calif.; two brothers, Clarence Starr, Buckner, and Charles Starr, Calhoun, Mo.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

JOHN H. BUNYAR
John Henderson Bunyar, 74, Forsyth, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997.
Mr. Bunyar was born Jan. 5, 1923, in Independence. He lived in Springfield for 20 years before moving to the lake area in 1980. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a carrier pilot during World War II.
He was a graduate of the University of Missouri. He was employed as a salesman for Hoover School Equipment, Kansas City, for 23 years. He was then an agent with American National Insurance Co., Springfield, Mo. He was a member of the Kingsway Methodist Church, Springfield. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Anne Bunyar, a brother, Robert Edward Bunyar and two sisters, Dorothy Marie and Mary Louise Cooper.
His survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Bunyar of the home; a son, William Scott Bunyar, Oklahoma City, Okla., and a daughter, Diane Bunyar Earhart, Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Benn A. Bunyar, Independence; and four grandchildren, Kimberly Floris, Michael Todd Earhart, Erica Bunyar and Brittany Bunyar.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Greenlawn Funeral Home, Branson, Mo. Burial will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery near Branson. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor`s favorite charity.

CAROLYN A. HULSE
Carolyn Alice Pickett Hulse, 49, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Hulse was born June 15, 1948, in Princeton, Mo. She was a 1966 graduate of Princeton High School and a 1967 graduate of the Caster`s Beauty Academy of St. Joseph, Mo. She worked as a beautician for 30 years, and retired earlier this year. She had lived in Princeton for several years before moving to Blue Springs in 1981. She was a member of the Princeton First Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Charles Edwin Hulse of the home; two sisters, Sandy Bowe, Trenton, Mo., and Debbie Morin, Mercer, Mo.; a brother, Gary Pickett, Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Princeton Cemetery under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service.

STURE F. JOHNSON
Sture F. Johnson, 86, Independence, died Friday, December 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Johnson was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He was a tool and die maker for Rival. He was a member of the Machinist Union and lifetime member of the Faukland Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delorus G. Johnson, in 1986.
Survivors include a son, Andrew F. Johnson, of Independence; a granddaughter, Andrea Johnson; and grandson, Alex Johnson.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

MARY KATHARYN POPE
Mary Katharyn Pope, 76, Pascagoula, Miss., died Thursday, December 11, 1997, in Mobile, Ala.
Mrs. Pope was born March 31,1921, in Tulsa, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pascagoula.
Survivors include her husband, Byron Pope, of the home; two daughters, Jane Ann Smith, of Gautier, Miss., and Nancy Pope Watford, of Pascagoula; a son, J. David Pope, of Austin, Texas; a brother, James Cline Ferguson, of Kansas City; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pascagoula. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. a Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Miss. Burial will be Wednesday at Mt. Washington cemetery in Independence, under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons Chapel.

ROY F. "SAM" HOUSTON
Roy F. "Sam" Houston, 70, Buckner, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Houston was born June 11, 1927, in Grain Valley. He had worked as a foreman for Olin Lake City Ammunition Plant for 30 years, until retiring in 1989. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Buckner. He was a member of the VFW Post 8101, Buckner, and the Planning and Zoning Board in Buckner. He was preceded in death by a son, William F. "Bill" Houston in 1982.
His survivors include his wife, Rosalee Houston of the home; three sisters, Viola Thomas, Buckner, Thelma Johnson, Kansas City, and Phyllis Wallace, Independence; and two grandchildren, Nathan Houston and Jennifer Houston.

CLYDE V. MILLER
Clyde V. Miller, 79, Lee`s Summit, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at John Knox Village Care Center.
Mr. Miller was born April 26, 1918, in East St. Louis, Ill. He retired from the K.C. Terminal Railway in 1975 after 26 years of service. He was a member of Pittman Road Church of God and had served on the Board of Trustees for nine years. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael.
His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Elsie M. Miller of the home; two sons, Bryan Miller, Independence, and Larry Miller, Lakewood, Colo.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

IRENE PARTON
Irene Parton, 76, Blue Springs, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.
Mrs. Parton was born May 6, 1921, in Wellsville, Kan., and had lived her entire life in this area. She was a cook with the North Kansas City School District for 18 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the Church on the Rock and had previously attended the Rose of Sharon Church.
Her survivors include her children, Paul Parton, Ridgeway, Mo., Carolyn Beemer, Blue Springs, Lloyd Parton, Madison, Wis., Judy Waterman, Independence, Dorothy Dillsaver,Overland Park, Kan., Kathy McManus, Independence, Kan., Dianne Fletcher, Independence, Tom Parton, Blue Springs, Lonnie Parton, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Rick Parton, Gladstone, Mo.; a sister, Ruth Parton, North Kansas City; 25 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Rose of Sharon Church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Cameron, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel.

DOROTHY H. SIMMERMON
Dorothy Helen Simmermon, 82, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Oakwood Manor Nursing Home, Kansas City.
Mrs. Simmermon was born May 17, 1915, in Lexington, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She had worked for Lake City in production until retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church. Her husband, James E. Simmermon, died June 27, 1983. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Dorothy Jeanne on Dec. 1, 1976, and Barbara Lee on July 25, 1978.
Her survivors include a son, James E. Simmermon Jr., Liberty, Mo.;a daughter, Charlene Tucker, Independence; a brother, Robert L. Batchelor, Orange, Texas; a sister, Edith Ewing, Independence; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel, with the rosary at 6:30 p.m.
