DOROTHY E. BRYANT 

Dorothy E. Bryant, 85, Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center. 

Mrs. Bryant was born June 3, 1912, near Laredo, Mo., and lived in Grundy County before moving to Brookfield, Mo. She moved to Independence in 1964, to Chillicothe, Mo., in 1977, and returned to Independence in 1989. She was a floral designer for Eleanore`s Flowers in Trenton, Mo., for several years, and was a secretary at Allis-Chalmers before retiring in 1977. She and her husband had also farmed in Grundy County. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence, Chapter 113 of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chillicothe, and served as the past worthy matron of Chapter 19 of the O.E.S. in Galt, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd W. Bryant in 1961. 

Her survivors include two sons, William W. Bryant, Spokane, Wash., and Ronald J. Bryant, Independence; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services are at 1 p.m. today at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Trenton. The family suggests contributions to the church or your favorite charity.

GARLAND M. HOLT 

Garland M. Holt, 92, Lee`s Summit, died Dec. 26, 1997, at John Knox Village Care Center. 

Mrs. Holt was born Feb. 18, 1905, in Pickering, Mo., and lived in Lee`s Summit the past 13 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Beverly Shelton Girl`s Town Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alwin Joseph "Joe" Holt, in 1983; an infant son; two brothers, Beryl and Elmer Montgomery; three sisters, Fannie Sparks,Elizabeth Killiam and Gladys Gonser. 

Survivors include one son, A.J. Holt, Lee`s Summit; three daughters, Beverly Jo Shelton, Independence, Ada Mae Wilmes,Maryville, Mo. and Elizabeth Ann Reynolds, Independence; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Craveside-Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, Mo. Visitation is at noon Sunday at Price Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Beverly Shelton Girl`s Town Club.

DONALD E. REAS 

Donald Eugene Reas, 72, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Reas was born March 31, 1925, in New Albany, Ind., and had lived most of his life in Independence before moving to Blue Springs in 1996. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a mechanic with TWA for more than 35 years, retiring in 1991. His wife, Patricia, died in 1995. 

His survivors include his daughter, Julie Cato of the home; two brothers, Warren Reas,Jeffersonville, Ind., and William Reas, Live Oak, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, cremation. Entombment will be in Mound Grove columbarium. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Music Arts Institute Scholarship Fund.

LOREN BUDDY "BUD" SMITH 

Loren Buddy "Bud" Smith, 65, St. Joseph, Mo., died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Smith was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Independence, and lived in St. Joseph, Mo., since 1969. He was worked for RPM Freightway in Kansas City, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the American Quarter Horse Association. He married Mary Alice Kinder in 1988. 

His survivors include his wife, Mary Alice (Kinder) Smith, of the home; four step-daughters, Pam Hood and Brenda Calvert, both of Savannah, Mo., Lynn Harison and Laurie Huffman, both of St. Joseph; one son, Loren "Scotty" Smith; one sister, Arnetta Croft; two brothers, Jay D. Smith and KenyaSmith; two step-sons, Jeff Carrel and John Hood, both of St. Joesph; one brother, Vernon L. Smith, Blue Springs; and 11 grandchildren. 

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heaton-Brown-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel in St. Joseph. Burial is in Mt. Auburn Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Barbara Jo Snow, 54, Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 1997, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. 

Mrs. Snow was born May 2, 1943, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She had worked as a receptionist for the University of Kansas Medical Center for the past three years. She was a member of the Maywood Baptist Church. 

Her survivors include her husband, Ronald Snow of the home; two daughters, Leigh Ann Martin and Kristen Paialii, both of Independence; two sons, Gregg R. Snow, Independence, and Jeff Snow, Kansas City; a sister, Bonnie Marx, New York City, N.Y.; her mother, Marie J. BOBBY A. BROCKHOUSE 

Bobby Arno Brockhouse, 75, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. 

Mr. Brockhouse was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Kansas City,and had lived in this area most of his life. He worked in the cooler repair department for Mid-America Coca-Cola in Kansas City and Lenexa, Kan., for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. 

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brockhouse of the home; a son, Michael Wayne Brockhouse, Blue Springs; a daughter, Madeline Eileen Garman, Independence; a sister, Betty Ann Hill, Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

CLIFFORD R. SPRINGER 

Clifford Raymond Springer, 81, Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Springer was born May 28, 1916, in Stockdale, Kan., and spent most of his life in the Stockdale and Manhattan, Kan., area. He moved to Independence in the late 1970s. He worked for the State Highway Department of Kansas for 32years, retiring in the late 1970s. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Clay Center, Kan. 

His survivors include his wife, Maxine Revera Lundin Springer of the home; a daughter, Judy D. Dennis, Independence; a son, Stanley R. Springer, Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren, Cheri R. Deutscher, Shelly Springer, Sandra Springer, Jason Dennis and Jared Dennis; and one great-grandson, Jared Michael Dennis II.

FORDA B. CLAY 

Forda Bruce Clay,73, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Clay was born Nov. 25, 1924, in Hot Springs, Ark. He was stationed in Alaska while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for General Motors for 40 years before he retired. He was a member of the Raytown Christian Church, and attended the Adam and Eve Bible Class. His first wife, Maxine Tressie Huff Clay, died in 1989. 

His survivors include his wife, Pearl Clay of the home; a daughter, Mary Hankins, Olathe, Kan.; four sons, Robert Fox, Osawatomie, Kan., Steve Clay, West Plains, Mo., Jay Clay, Kansas City, Kan., and David Clay, Farmington, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Kathy Smiley, Westlake Village, Calif.; three stepsons, Andrew Thomas, Independence, Charles Thomas, Minneapolis, Minn., and David Thomas, Holdenville, Okla.; a brother, Jack Clay, Butler, Mo.; a sister, Eula Mae Gray, Kilgore, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Ernest N. "Ernie" Delk, 77, Wichita, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997. 

Mr. Delk was a retired flight line mechanic for Boeing Aircraft Co.

MARJORIE M. "G.G." GILLUM 

Marjorie M. "G.G." Burgess Gillum, 74, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Gillum was born Dec. 25, 1922, in Little Blue, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a secretary for J.M. Steinhauser Real Estate from 1940 to 1971, and for the Independence School District from 1971 to 1981. 

Mrs. Gillum was a member of the First Baptist Church of Independence, serving in both Homebound and Communion ministries. She also served as the church clerk. She had been a volunteer at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital and a member of the Jackson County Board of Services for Developmentally Disabled. 

She was a charter member and past president of the Beta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, and a former member and vice president of the Tirey J. Ford American Legion Post 21 Auxiliary. She was first attendant to the queen at the first Santa-Cali-Gon. Her husband, John T. Gillum, died in 1993. 

Her survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Gillum Walker, Charlotte, N.C., and Cynthia Gillum Schuler, Independence; a sister, Allene Stillwell, Seal Beach, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Ronda Schuler Scott, Aimee Schuler, Melanie Davis Saunier, Christopher Davis, Joshua Walker and Lindsey Walker.

LINDA S. HURST 

Linda Sue Hurst, 51, Independence, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, at Colonial Manor in Glasgow, Mo. 

Ms. Hurst was born July 24, 1946, in Boonville, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area since 1967. She had been a credit manager for the Foley-Bellsaw Corp. since 1981. 

She retired as a master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force Reserves in 1987. She also served in the National Guard for one year and in the Air Force for eight years before going into the Reserves. She was a member of St. Paul`s Lutheran Church, Independence, and was a graduate of Brunswick High School. 

Her survivors include her parents, Ercel and Nadine Hurst, and a sister, Dorothy Biere, all of Keytesville; her companion, Marcella Fite, Independence; and several nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Berry Funeral Home, Salisbury, Mo. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Salisbury, with graveside services provided by Salisbury VFW Post 391. The family suggests contributions to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salisbury, or the Colonial Manor Nursing Home courtyard project.

MARY E. SPRINGER 

Mary E. Springer, 75, Independence, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 1997, in Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

She was born in Galloway, Mo., June 7, 1922, and moved to Independence in 1945. 

Mrs. Springer was a motel manager and owned a business with her husband, Edgar, who survives her. She retired in 1979. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, attending at the Christ United Methodist Church, Independence. 

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary, Independence, and Larry, Carrollton,Texas; two daughters, Connie Zuck, Lexington, and Donna Springer, Independence; brother Wayne McConnell, Modesto, Calif.; 29 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

JORDAN COX 

Jordan Cox, 14, Blue Springs, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at his home. 

Jordan was born Jan. 11, 1983, in Independence. He was a freshman at Blue Springs South High School, where he was a member of the Boys Concert Choir. He was an active member of First Baptist Church and a member of the youth choir. He was a member of First Priority and RADD at the church. He was a past member of the yearbook staff and the concert choir at Moreland Ridge Middle School. He was a former member of Cub Scout Pack 604. His survivors include his parents, Ronald L. and Kathy Sue Cox of the home; two brothers, Brendon Cox, Warrensburg, Mo., and Jacob Cox of the home; his paternal grandmother, Virginia Cox, Spring, Texas, and his maternal grandmother, Mary McKinzie, Chilhowee, Mo.

JOAN-CARTER GOLEMBE 

Joan-Carter Golembe, 71, Louisiana, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana. 

Miss Golembe was born June 10, 1926, in Liberty, N.Y. She attended HoodCollege in Frederick, Md., and the New York School of Design. She was a dedicated volunteer and served many years on the Louisiana Library Board. She also served on the boards of the Champ Clark Association for Retarded Citizens, the Pike County Sheltered Workshop, the Ruth Jensen Village, and the Pike County Senate Bill 40. She was appointed by Governor Ashcroft to the Missouri Protection and Advocacy Board of Directors and served two three-year terms. She was recently honored by the Missouri Association of County Developmental Disabilities Boards for lifetime distinguished service. 

Her survivors include two daughters,Dr. Elizabeth Ward Hanneman, Blue Springs, and Catherine Ambra, Bowling Green,Mo.; two sons, Stephen Ambra Jr., Concord, N.H., and Thomas Ambra, Louisiana; two brothers, John Golembe, Heidleberg, Germany, and Carter Golembe, Boca Raton, Fla.; and eight grandchildren. 

Services were Dec. 18 in Louisiana. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Louisiana.

MELINDA I. CAYNOR HADDOCK 

Melinda I. Caynor Haddock, 33, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at her home. 

She was born July 18, 1964, in Kansas City and had lived in Independence the past 30 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a graduate of William Chrisman High School.

DONNER DELORIS R. KROESEN 

Donner Deloris R. Kroesen, 95, Independence, died, Monday, Dec. 29, 1997. 

Mrs. Kroesen was born March 16, 1901, in Woodbine, Iowa, and had lived in Sioux City, Iowa, before moving to Independence. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a Blue Bird leader, an Oriole leader and had taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. In 1927 she was an assistant to Bertha Constance in writing stories and preparing material and teaching for the first vacation church Bible school on the RLDS campus. She worked as a nurse`s aide at the Independence Sanitarium and then at Sears and Roebuck Co. for 27 years as a cashier. She became a member of the Laurel Club in 1971. She was music coordinator for 10 years in the church congregation at Heritage House. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, George Kroesen in 1986 and a son, Jack Kroesen in 1992. 

Her survivors include two sons, George D. Kroesen, Oak Grove, and Carlos R. Kroesen, Memphis, Tenn.;a daughter, Clarice L. McKay, Independence; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-granddaughter. 

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 until service time at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
