BOBBY A. BROCKHOUSE 

Bobby Arno Brockhouse, 75, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. 

Mr. Brockhouse was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Kansas City, and had lived in this area most of his life. He worked in the cooler repair department for Mid-America Coca-Cola in Kansas City and Lenexa, Kan., for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Independence Boulevard Christian Church, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. 

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Brockhouse of the home; a son, Michael Wayne Brockhouse, Blue Springs; a daughter, Madeline Eileen Garman, Independence; a sister, Betty Ann Hill, Birmingham, Ala.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

CLYDE A. FRISTOE 

Clyde A. Fristoe, 92, Grain Valley, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Fristoe was born in Grain Valley and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of the Grain Valley United Methodist Church for more than 80 years. He was a member and past master of the Grain Valley Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Fristoe, in 1996. 

His survivors include a son, Donald Fristoe, Grain Valley; a granddaughter, Cynthia Fristoe; a grandson, Dan Fristoe; four great-granddaughters, Amanda Davidson, Brittney Fristoe, Kayla Fristoe and Shelbie Fristoe; and a great-grandson, Bryce Williams. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial willbe in Lee`s Summit Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

MILFORD L. "MEL" GRAVES 

Milford Lee "Mel" Graves, 80, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mr. Graves was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Macon, Mo., and moved to this area in 1940. He was the service manager at Cable Chevrolet in Independence for 15 years, retiring in 1982. He previously was the service manager at McClure-Norrington Chevrolet. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and attended diesel engineering school at Iowa State University. He served as gun captain on LST 749 during World War II until it was sunk in the Philippines. He was subsequently missing in action for seven days until he was found adrift alone on a life raft. Hewas an avid golfer, and was a past member of the Blue Springs Country Club. Hewas currently on the Golf Club staff and was marshal of the Golf Club events. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His wife, Margaret Graves, died in1996. 

His survivors include his children, Thomas Graves, Dallas, and CaroleDorrell, Kansas City; two grandchildren, Daniel Dorrell and Gwen Elizabeth Graves, and a brother, Harold Graves, Jacksonville, Fla. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

CHARLES D. HARMON JR. 

Charles D. Harmon Jr., 74, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Harmon was born July 4, 1923, in Kansas City. He was a World War II Army veteran. He had worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was a member of Praise Tabernacle in Independence. 

His survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Harmon of the home; a son, Charles D. Harmon III, Blue Springs; two daughters, Christina Harmon, Independence, and LaVerta Turner, Blue Springs; a brother, Bill Harmon, San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Nancy Harmon, Dallas,and Emma Pearl Moore, Portland, Ore.; and four grandchildren, Charles D. Harmon IV, Emily Harmon, Ashley Harrison and William R. Amsbaugh III. 

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

ROBERT M. DAVIES 

Robert M. Davies, 75, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, Kansas City. 

Mr. Davis was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., and had lived in the Independence area since 1925. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.He was chairman and owner of Reed Oven Co. He was active in daily operations of the company until his death. He was a member of Bakery Equipment Manufactures Association, the American Institute of Baking and the Allied Trades of Baking Industry. He was a member of the Mic-O-Say and the Boy Scouts 229 of the First Christian Church. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence. 

His survivors include his wife of 33 years, Kathryn W. Davies of the home; a daughter, Linda S. Crowder, Independence; a son, Timothy M. Davies, Kansas City; a brother, Edward H. Davies, Independence; five grandchildren, John R. Crowder II, Jennifer K. Crowder, Christopher R. Davies, Lauren T. Davies and Jonathan Hoyt. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at George C. Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. BILL J. HARGROVE 

Bill J. Hargrove, 58, Lee`s Summit, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Gargrove was born July 27, 1939, in Fort Worth, Texas, and had lived in Blue Springs before moving to Lee`s Summit six years ago. He was the owner and operator of Able Pest Control and A1 Guttering. He earned a bachelor`s degree from the Abilene (Texas) Christian University. He was a member of the Hickman Mills Church of Christ. 

His survivors include his wife, Betty Hargrove of the home; four sons, Deron Lewis and Kyle Lewis, both of Tampa, Fla., Scott Lewis, Kansas City, and Corey Hargrove, Walnut Springs, Texas; a daughter, Kelly Silander, Allen, Texas; three grandchildren; Mason Silander, Denver and Brooklyn Hargrove; his parents, Homer and Pinkie Hargrove; Odessa, Texas; and two sisters, Jeannine Slusher and Glenda Bowman, both of Odessa. 

Services will be 7 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Tucumcari, N.M., Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

WILLIAM H. "BILL" KEERAN 

William Harold "Bill" Keeran, 52, Lexington, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mr. Keeran was born June 24, 1945,in Independence. He was employed by Weston Transportation of Kansas City. He graduated from Fort Osage High School. 

His survivors include his wife, Bonnieof the home; a daughter, Kim, Lexington; his mother, Grace Keeran, a brother, Larry Keeran, and a sister, Loretta Barrett, all of Independence; and two grandchildren, Jordan and Sidney. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1808 Main, Lexington. Burial will be in Buckner Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Walker-Nadler Funeral Home, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

SISTER MARY ANGELA LANG 

Sister Mary Angela Lang, 93, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997. 

Sister Mary Angela Lang was born June 16, 1904, in Treffelhausen, Germany. She came to the United States in 1925 to be missionaries in Missouri. Hers was a domestic ministry like Mary of Nazareth. She professed on Aug. 12, 1927, in Nevada, Mo. She cooked for the sisters in Lexington, Higginsville, Germantown, Martinsvilleand Nevada, all in Missouri, and was sacristan for several years. She spent almost 20 years cooking, caring and praying for the priests and students at St. John`s Diocesan Seminary. Simple joy, service and sanctity were her gifts to us. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Convent Our Lady of Angel Chapel. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Calvary, Nevada.Rosary will be said at 7 tonight at St. Francis Convent Our Lady of Angel Chapel, 2100 N. Noland Road, Independence.

ELLYN SHIRLEY 

Ellyn Shirley, 68, Blue Springs, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, at Menorah Medical Center. 

Mrs. Shirley was born Jan. 17, 1929, in Bates City. She was a self-employed wallpaper hanger. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Blue Springs Chapter.She was preceded in death by her husband, Burleigh Shirley on Aug. 15, 1990. Her survivors include a son, Gregory Shirley, Blue Springs; a daughter, Bridgett Shirley, Kansas City; two brothers, Lowell Williamson, Princeton, Mo., and Robert Eugene Williamson Jr., Burlington, Kan.; two sisters, Eugenia Stewart, Kansas City, and Patsy Bliss, Blue Springs; four grandchildren, Justin Shirley, Erin Shirley, Miguel A. Sancho and Victoria A. Sancho.

GLEN BATES 

Glen Bates, 59, Lone Jack, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, at his home. Mr. Bates was born July 6, 1938, in Sayre, Okla., and had lived in California before living in the Kansas City area for the past 21 years. He was employed by Earth Grains Bakery for 17 years. He was a Baptist. 

His survivors include his wife, Cheryl Bates of the home; three sons, Jeffery Bates, Independence, Kan., Glen Bates Jr., Wellington, Nev., and Anthony Bates, Dallas; two daughters, Lori White, Wellington, and Lynn Horning, Gardnerville, Nev.; a stepson, Marc Manley, Maitland, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Karrie Manley of the home; two brothers, Charles Bates, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Eugene Bates, Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Mary Price, La Puente, Calif., and Lucil Haden, Lowell, Ark.; seven grandsons, Mason, Glen III, Kyle, Jesse, Mathew, Bobby and Dylan; a granddaughter, Sarah; and two stepgrandchildren, Tiffany and T.J. Smith.

VIVIAN C. BRIGHT 

Vivian Charlene Bright, 74, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. Bright was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Conception Junction, Mo. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 499. 

Her survivors include her two daughters, Dorothy Bearce, Buckner, and Kelly Mellon, Blue Springs; two sisters, Elvina Farnan, Conception Junction, and Agnes Untiedt, Conception Junction; four grandchildren, Darlene Mart, Diane Clements, Crystal Mellen and Harold Mellen Jr.; and four great-grandchildren. 

Services were today at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Interment was in Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens.

FAY L. BURROWS 

Fay Louise Burrows, 76, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997,at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Burrows was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Eagleville, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a receptionist for the Independence Board of Education for 11 years, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Independence Music Club and a former member of the Young Matron`s Club. She was a priest in the South Crysler RLDS Church. 

Survivors include her husband, Harold R. Burrows of the home; two daughters, Deanna K. Gard, Blue Springs, and Rita F. Casteel, Grain Valley and four grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Entombment will be in Mound Grove Mausoleum. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund or the American Cancer Society.

GERALDINE A. GUY 

Geraldine A. Guy, 79, Oak Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mrs. Guy was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Odessa, Mo. She was employed at Western Electric in Lee`s Summit, retiring in 1978. She lived in Oak Grove for 61 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.F. Guy in 1989 and one son, Jeffry Guy in 1981. 

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Johnson, Oak Grove, and Janet Dwyer, Aurora, Colo.; one grandson, J.P. Dwyer III, Aurora, Colo.; one sister, Madeline Graf, Tennessee; and three brothers, Clayton Allen and Winton Allen, both of Arizona, and Robert Allen, Tennessee. 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

RAYMOND B. RUPP SR. 

Raymond B. Rupp Sr., 65, Grain Valley, died Friday, Dec. 26, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Rupp was born in Kansas City and moved to the Grain Valley area in 1974. He was a salesman for Complete Building Center in Blue Springs, serving the Eastern Jackson County area. He was a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Eastern Jackson County Builders Association and Jayco Trailriders Camping Club. He served as secretary of Public Water District No. 17 and was a board member for the past 23 years. He was the Voice of the Grain Valley Eagles for the last 12 years and a member of the Grain Valley Booster Club. He was president of the Grain Valley School Board for nine years and a former football referee for MSHSAA for 14 years. 

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Rupp of the home; one daughter, Pam Bellemere, Grain Valley; two sons, Karl D. Rupp, Southern Missouri, and R.B. Rupp Jr., Bates City, Mo.; his mother, Margaret Rupp of the home; two sisters, Mary Brady, Peculiar, Mo., and Ceci Sava, Hot Springs, Ark.; and seven grandchildren. 

Funeral services were today with burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Ray Rupp Memorial Scholarship fund for Grain Valley High School at the Bank of Grain Valley.

ELIZABETH R. BLOUSTINE 

Elizabeth R. Bloustine, 81, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at her home. Mrs. Bloustine was born Oct. 4, 1916, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in this area for many years. She was an executive secretary at Folgers Coffee in Kansas City, retiring in 1957. She was a member of the Woman`s City Club. 

Her survivors include three nieces, Kathleen Weeks Kenefick, College Station, Texas, Elizabeth Louise Weeks Franzen, West Jefferson, N.C., and Cherie Ann Christiansen,San Jose, Calif. 

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Children`s Mercy Hospital or the William Jewell College Fine Arts Program.

MARCUS W. CASWELL 

Marcus W. Caswell, 82, Belton, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at his niece`s home in Holt, Mo. 

Mr. Caswell was born March 24, 1915, in Queen City, Mo., spent his childhood in Kansas City and later moved to Michigan. He was a carpenter for many years as well as a Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florine Caswell. 

His survivors include 18 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 11a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.

RALPH D. ELLIOTT 

Ralph D. Elliott, 88, Greenwood, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Lee`s Summit Hospital. 

Mr. Elliott was born March 26, 1909, in Pittsburg, Kan. He owned Ralph D. Elliott and Son Bookkeeping and Tax Accounting in Independence. He was a former mayor of Buckner and had served as a city judge in Buckner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Elliott in 1968, and a daughter, Jayne Fisher in 1992. 

His survivors include two daughters, Mary McMillian, Kansas City, and Ann Cahill, Independence; a son, Donald Elliott, Greenwood; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. 

Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

VIOLA "VI" FLOWERS 

Viola "Vi" Rollins Flowers, 78, Lamoni, Iowa, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. 

Mrs. Flowers was born April 28, 1919, in Pierce County, Neb., and had lived in Lamoni for 54 years. She had worked at Lamoni Manor for a number of years. She was also well-known for her cinnamon rolls, pies, and homemade turnover rolls when her daughter, Lee, owned and operated Lee`s Cafe in Lamoni from 1969 to 1974. She was baptized as a Jehovah`s Witness. She was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Flowers and Richard Flowers. 

Her survivors include her husband of 62 years, Raymond Flowers of the home; a son, Raymond LeRoy Flowers, Independence; two daughters, Leila "Lee" Main, Polo, Mo., and Donna Flowers Adams, Lamoni; two brothers, Robert Rollins and Charles Rollins; two sisters, Arthella Martin and Marlene Bissell; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Slade-O`Donnell Funeral Home, Lamoni. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni. The family suggests contributions to the Lamoni First Responders.

ELVERA A. JONES 

Elvera A. Jones, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at Park Lane Medical Center. 

Mrs. Jones was born Nov. 14, 1926, in Holcombe, Wis., and had lived in Independence since 1950. She was a homemaker. Her survivors include her husband, Robert E. Jones of the home; and a sister, Elaine Smith, Kirksville, Mo.

JOE E. WINFREY 

Joe Everette Winfrey, 77, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997, at Lee`s Summit Hospital. 

Mr. Winfrey was born July 10, 1920, in Independence. He worked at Sears from 1940 to 1980, served on the Lee`s Summit Police Department for more than 20 years, and for the Lee`s Summit School District for more than 20 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of American Legion Tirey J. Ford Post 21. He was a Santa Claus helper for more than 40 years in the Greater Lee`s Summit area, and had arrived by helicopter, fire truck and police cars. He also had served as an elementary school crossing guard for more than 10 years. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Mudd. 

His survivors include his wife, Frances O. Winfrey, Lee`s Summit; two daughters, Carolyn Mudd, Leaton, Mo., and Betty Noah, Lee`s Summit; a half brother, Roy Hobbs, Independence; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. 

Services were today at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery, Buckner. The family suggests contributions to the Children`s Miracle Network, 6600 W. 95th St., Overland Park, Kan. 66212.
