DAVID M. STEFFA 

David Marshall Steffa, 46, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Truman Medical Center. 

Mr. Steffa was born Feb. 23, 1951, in New York City and had lived in Independence most of his life. He had been a musician/guitarist for clubs in the Greater Kansas City area since 1970. He had also played three years in Frankfurt, Germany, at U.S. armed forces clubs. He was nicknamed Electric Dave. He was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church and the Kansas City Federation of Musicians Local 34-627 AF of M. He was a graduate of St. Mary`s High School, and attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. 

His survivors include his mother, Julia E. Steffa of the home; three aunts, Ann Woodside and Martha Hunt, both of Independence, and Nancy Bodlak, Tucson, Ariz.; an uncle, G.B. Frost, Chapel Hill, N.C.; and six cousins. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Buckner Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

JOHN B. "J.B." STONE 

John Blair "J.B." Stone, 76, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at the Park Lane Medical Center, Raytown. 

Mr. Stone was born May 24, 1921, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City and Independence before moving to Blue Springs earlier this year. He graduated in 1940 from El Dorado Springs High School and furthered his education in engineering in Kansas City. He was an Army veteran. He worked at Wilcox Electric in Kansas City his entire working career and continued with this type of work from his home until recently. He was interested in airplanes and maintained a pilot`s license. He was involved in starting the airport at the School of the Ozarks, near Branson, Mo. 

His survivors include two sisters, Genevieve Shaw, El Dorado Springs, and Esther Sylvester, Lee`s Summit; and a niece, Ruth Allen, Nevada, Mo. 

Services were today at the Hackleman Chapel, El Dorado Springs. Burial was in the El Dorado Springs Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Hackleman and Sons Fuenral Home.

JUSTIN B. TROUTMAN 

Justin B. Troutman, 21, Boulder, Colo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, in Boulder. 

Mr. Troutman was born Nov. 20, 1975, in Independence. He was a junior at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Boulder, and enjoyed mountain biking and playing the guitar. 

His survivors include his father and stepmother, Terry H. and Nita Troutman, Lombard, Ill.; his mother, Jeannie Spoor, Lisle, Ill.; a brother,Kyle Troutman, Lombard; a stepbrother, Ken Mote, Lakewood, Colo.; a stepsister, Christie Brokaw, Virginia Beach, Va.; his grandparents, Howard and Leila Troutman, Independence, and Mildred and Hershel Spoor, Riverside, Mo.; maternal step grandmother, Anita Mote, San Diego, Calif.; and his great-grandmother, Goldie Spoor, El Dorado Springs, Mo.

Martha Ellen VanKirk, 76, Independence, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. VanKirk was born March 21, 1921, in Lancaster, Ohio, and had lived in Independence for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Beverly Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Conard VanKirk in 1987, and a son, Conard Douglas in 1972. 

Her survivors include four daughters, Constance D. Fisher, Bellevue, Wash., Linda K. Gagliardi, Rogers, Ark., Judith A. Tonyan, Independence, and Terri L. McClellan, Blue Springs;a sister, Etta Borden, Sun Lakes, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

ALONZO M. "LONNIE" HUTCHESON 

Alonzo M. "Lonnie" Hutcheson, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997,at St. Mary`s Manor of Blue Springs. 

Mr. Hutcheson was born in Kansas City and had lived in Independence before moving to Raytown two years ago. He had been a shipping and yard supervisor for the Portland Cement Co., for 34 years, retiring in 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 110th Combat Unit. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a member of its men`s group. 

His survivors include his wife, Jeanette Hutcheson of the home; a son, George Hutcheson, Cedar Falls, Iowa; a daughter, Cheryl Webb, Peculiar, Mo.; a brother, Elmer Hutcheson, Independence; a sister, Delma Ullmann, San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Sarabeth Graef, Conrad and Cody Hutcheson; and a great-grandson, Dylan Graef.

Hattie L. Kalinka, 84, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at the Laurie (Mo.) Nursing Care Center.

Gail Jean Mays, 45, Buckner, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 1997, at her home.

WAIDO F. SIDEBOTTOM 

Waido Franklin Sidebottom, 68, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Sidebottom was born April 13, 1929, in southern Missouri. He attended Pleasant Hill schools. He retired from General Motors Leeds Plant after 40 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 93. He was baptized in the Calvary Baptist Church, Independence.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 7, 1919, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was retired from Standard Oil. He was a member of Oakley Methodist Church, Mount Washington Masonic Lodge, Ararat Shrine Temple, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3976, Sugar Creek, and the 35th Division Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Battery C 219th of the Field Artillery 35th Division. 

His survivors include his wife, Sue N. Smith of the home; two sons, David O. Smith, Alexandria, Va., and Michael D. Smith, Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Raechell M. Smith, Kansas City; three sisters, Ruth Linnenbringer, Independence, Opal Boyle, Gold Hill, Ore., and Hazel Reinhart, Kansas City, Kan.; and one granddaughter, Courtney E. Smith.

Dawn Kay Meyer Sayer, 33, Brookfield, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 1997, at St. Mary`s Health Center of St. Louis. 

Mrs. Sayer was born Oct. 2, 1964, in Warrensburg, Mo., grew up in Concordia, Mo., and moved to Brookfield in 1988. Sheworked for Walsworth Publishing Co. Earlier she had worked for Unitog for 4 1/2 years. She was a member of St. Paul`s Lutheran Church of Concordia, but was attending the Full Gospel Fellowship in Brookfield. 

Her survivors include her husband, Terry L. Sayer of the home; her mother, Betty J. Meyer, Concordia; four brothers, Steven L. Meyer, Bolivar, Mo., Johnnie D. Meyer, Blackburn, Mo., and Danny P. Meyer and Scott W. Meyer, both of Concordia; a sister, Kelly R. Meyer, Concordia; eight nephews and nieces; and one great-nephew.

JOHN H. SHEAHON M.D. 

Dr. John H. Sheahon, 76, Lake Lotawana, died Tuesday, Nov.11, 1997, at his home. 

Dr. Sheahon was born July 2, 1921, in Kansas City. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He attended De La Salle High School, Rockhurst College and Creighton University. He served his residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colo., and Colorado General Hospital. He was a board certified OB/GYN, a Chief OB/GYN at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs and at Research Medical Center, and president of the Kansas City OB/GYN Society. He also was a member of the Credential Committee of Research Medical Center, a member of the medical staffs of Research Medical Center, Trinity Lutheran Hospital, St. Mary`s Hospital and Baptist Medical Center. He was in private practice for several years in Raytown and Blue Springs. 

His survivors include his wife, Martha Sheahon, Lake Lotawana; five daughters, Mary Lou Schroeder, Olathe, Kan., Karen Williams and Patti Hessler, both of Lee`s Summit, Martha McGrew, Prairie Village, Kan., and Carol Farrington, Leawood, Kan.; two sons, John Sheahon III, Lee`s Summit, and Jim Sheahon, Blue Springs; and 14 grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City. Genevieve M. "Jean" Cunningham, 87, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center. Mrs. Cunningham was born March 26, 1910, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for Pratt & Whitney at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant during World War II. She was a member of Mount Washington United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.P. Cunningham in 1987, and a son, William P. Cunningham in 1991.

KATHLYN G. FISH 

Kathlyn Georgia Fish, 82, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Fish was born May 26, 1915, in Ledyard, Iowa, and had lived in Bethlehem, Pa., before moving to Independence in 1970. She was a secretary for the Iowa State University Extension School and the YWCA of Bethlehem before she retired. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation and had sungin its choir and the Messiah Choir. She was also active in other church work. She was an honorary member of the Lehigh University Women`s Club of Bethlehem.Her husband, Velmer B. Fish, died in 1968. 

Her survivors include a son, Leland Fish, Kansas City; a daughter, Mary Anne Adkins, Lee`s Summit; a brother, Robert Kolarich, Godfrey, Ill.; a sister, Joy Betty Hedges, Kansas City; and four grandchildren, William B. Fish, Jonathan T. Fish, Michael Adkins and Kristen Hankins.

Baldwin and Shirley Crooks, both of Springfield, Genie Martindale, Oak Grove, Mary Pitts, Raytown, Geneva Russell, Independence, BettyFowler, Hot Springs, Ark., and Helen Davis, Reed Springs, Mo.; two sons, David Hamilton, Alameda, Calif., and Harold Hamilton, Fort Meyers, Fla.; a sister, Dehlia Williams, Middleton, Tenn.; 34 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Girls in Action Missions at the church.

SEAN M. RILEY 

Sean Mitchell Riley, infant son of Donna and Roger Riley of El Cajon, Calif., died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997. 

His survivors also include a sister, Taylor Elise Riley, El Cajon; two half sisters, Shannon Harrison and Ashley Harrison, Maurice, La.; maternal grandparents, Diana and Thomas Ramsey, Greenville, S.C.; paternal grandparents, Millie and Don Riley, and paternal great-grandfather, Howard Huffman, all of Independence; his godmother, Erika Nohl, El Cajon; and aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
