Howard Rex Barnett Friend, 30, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Friend was born in Independence and had lived in Independence most of his life. 

His survivors include his parents, Rick and Linda Friend, Independence; four sisters, Delena Mullen, North Kansas City, Sherrie Rader and Wendy Pahmeyer, both of Raytown, and Stacy Roberts, Independence; his maternal grandparents, Howard andLois Peppers, Independence; and his companion, Chuck Horn of Independence. ELMER J. KRICKLE 

Retired Army Capt. Elmer John Krickle, 83, Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Monterey Park Nursing Center. 

Mr. Krickle was born Nov. 24, 1913, in Minneapolis, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He had also lived in Aurora, Colo., for 18 years, and Seattle for five years. He was a self-employed cabinet maker for 50 years, and a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran, serving with the 10th Mountain Division, and was a member of American Legion Post 21. 

His survivors include a son, Timothy Krickle, Independence; three brothers, Eugene Krickle and Robert Krickle, both of Crystal, Minn., and John Krickle, Dayton, Minn.; a sister, Lorraine Cumings, Crystal; and two grandchildren, Megan Krickle and Emily Krickle. 

Memorial services will be at St.Therese Catholic Church, Aurora. Cremation, with burial in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. The family suggests contributions to the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

JOHN E. NICKERSON 

John E. Nickerson, 50, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Nickerson was born May 28, 1947, in Fulton, Kan. His father, Ernest Nickerson, died in 1987. 

His survivors include his mother, Velma Nickerson, and his grandmother, Florence Gump, both of Fort Scott, Kan.; a sister, Sharon Gambell, Independence; and a brother, Dewayne Nickerosn, Lenexa, Kan.

KAREN S. TURNER 

Karen Sue Turner, 31, Eudora, Kan., formerly of Buckner, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at Lawrence (Kan.) Memorial Hospital. 

Miss Turner was born Dec. 30, 1965,in Kansas City, grew up in Buckner, and moved to Lawrence in 1977. She had been employed by a housekeeping agency in Lawrence, and was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church in Buckner. 

Her survivors include her companion, Mike Gibler, Eudora; her parents, Kenneth and Judy Turner, Lawrence; two sisters, Coni Case, Buckner, and Cindy Wingeback, Eudora; three nephews; and two nieces. 

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home.

WILLIAM R. BOYD 

William Riley Boyd of Independence died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Cedar Valley Nursing Home. 

Mr. Boyd was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Ozark, Mo. He worked for the Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo, Mo., retiring in 1975. He was a professional baseball player in the Cardinal and Cubs organizations prior to World War II. During the war, he served on PT boat duty in the Pacific. 

His survivors include his wife, Estelle Boyd of Independence; two sons, Bill Boyd, Lee`s Summit, and Larry Boyd, Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Lola Stewart, Springfield, Mo., Betty Jane Creed, Merriam, Kan., and Mary Jo Jerrill, Oklahoma City; and three grandsons, Caleb Boyd, Ryan Boyd and Scott Boyd. 

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

FRANCES L. DUNFIELD 

Frances L. Dunfield, 74, Kansas City, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. Dunfield was born June 13, 1923, in Birmingham, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City for 25 years. Her husband, Richard E. Dunfield, died in 1967. 

Her survivors include three sons, Gary Dunfield, Gladstone, Mo., and Lloyd Dunfield and Richard Dunfield, both of Kansas City; five daughters, Sandra Vaccaro, Kathryn Vasquez, Mary Dunfield and Diana Wimberley, all of Kansas City, and Rose Young, Peculiar, Mo.; two brothers, Walter Bosley, North Kansas City, and Charles Bosley, Atherton; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Waldron, Mo., and Alberta Bosley, St. Louis; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

CATHERINE N. LONG 

Catherine Nell Bruce Craddock Long, 97, Liberty, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at the Liberty Terrace Care Center. Mrs. Long was born Feb. 2, 1900, in Weir City, Kan., and lived in Pleasanton,Kan., before moving to Independence after she retired. She attended State Teachers College, and then taught school in Kansas. She was a cost accounting clerk for Donnelly Garment Co. from 1937 to 1968. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem, where she was past matron of the York Chapter. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William James Craddock in 1944, and her second husband, Charles U. Long in 1977. 

Her survivors include two daughters, Patsy Warren, Higginsville, Mo., and Margaret Bundy, Liberty; four grandchildren, Terrie Boyles, Greg Warren, Kyle Warren and Kevin Warren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Cemetery, Pittsburg, Kan. HELEN M. SHEPHERD 

Helen M. Shepherd, 99, Liberty, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997, at the Liberty Terrace Nursing Home. 

Mrs. Shepherd was born in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She was the senior member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she had, in the past, been a choir member, and was a member of the Women`s Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard C. Shepherd in 1966. 

Her survivors include her nieces and nephews, Bill and Betty Gordon, Independence, Dr. Robert and Nancy Shepherd, Lexington, Mo., John and Betty Kiniry, Kansas City, and Pauline Brown, Texas.

Virginia Ann Skinner, 81, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Miss Skinner was born Aug. 6, 1916, in Henrietta, Texas, and had lived most of her life in California before moving to Independence four years ago. She was an executive secretary for the Thums Oil Co. in Long Beach, Calif., before she retired.

Cora Grace Bickel, 103, Raytown, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital.

RICHARD D. BRADEN 

Richard D. Braden, 57, Kent, Wash., formerly of Independence,died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at his home on Pipe Lake in Kent. 

Mr. Braden was born March 17, 1940, in Independence. He was a graduate of William Chrisman High School and the University of Kansas. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Northwest Sound barbershop chorus. 

His survivors include his wife, Patricia L. Braden of Kent; two daughters, Annette O`Neal, Valencia, Calif., and Melanie Corey, Federal Way, Wash.; his parents, Charles and Virginia Braden, Bogard, Mo.; and a brother, John Braden, Lake Tapawingo.

MARY I. BUNDSCHU 

Mary I. Maness Bundschu, 74, Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Monday,Oct. 6, 1997. 

Mrs. Bundschu was born and raised in Independence, moving to Fort Myers in 1958. She organized and operated a large dance studio that was famous throughout the Independence and Kansas City area for its excellence of instruction and performing ability. Her associations include the Sable Palm Garden Club and the San Carlos/Estero Interfaith Caregivers. 

Her survivors include two children, Chris Bundschu and Mary Ellen Bundschu Burnup, both of Fort Myers; a sister, Anna Lois Keller, Lee`s Summit; two grandchildren, Skyler "Skye" Bundschu Burnup and Russell J. "RJ" Burnup; two nephews; and one niece. 

Memorial services will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Unity Church of Christianity, Fort Meyers, with family receiving friends following the service. BERTHA B. PHELPS 

Bertha B. Phelps, 88, Independence, died Monday,Oct. 6, 1997, at The Groves. 

Mrs. Phelps was born July 17, 1909, in Mayville, Mich., and had lived in Independence since 1982. She was a medical secretary for the Caro (Mich.) State Hospital before she retired. She was the council vice president of Girl Scouts of America, Mayville, and the founder of the Mayville Public Library. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 

Her survivors include her husband, Willard Phelps of the home; three daughters, Carol Ann Haller, New Jersey, Joanne Murphy, Kansas, and Mary Ann Evans, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

IVY I. RAMBO 

Ivy Isabella Rambo, 90, Liberty, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at the Ashton Care Center in Liberty. 

Mrs. Rambo was born Feb. 9, 1907, in St. Joseph, Mo., and lived in Independence and Excelsior Springs, Mo., before moving to Liberty three years ago. She was a member of the Cameron (Mo.) RLDS congregation. Her husband, William Curtis Rambo, died in 1976. 

Her survivors include a son, Robert Rambo, Excelsior Springs; a daughter, Donna Pederson, Lake Elmo, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Sylvia L. Rowland, 91, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997, at Maywood Terrace Living Center.

NAOMA E. DENISON 

Naoma Elizabeth Overton Denison, 97, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 1997, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit. Mrs. Denison had lived in Independence for 60 years before moving to Lee's Summit two years ago. She had also lived in California. She was a member of the First Christian Church and a former member of the Forest Hill Christian Church in San Francisco. She was a former a member of Casimir Chapter 252 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Golden Gate Masonic Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Doral Lee Denison. 

Her survivors include nieces and nephews, Edward P. Overton, Tampa, Fla., Laurie Wolfgang-Haynes and R. Brian Wolfgang, both of Independence, Valerie M. Jarrett, Raytown, H. Alan Wolfgang, Chicago, Leesa Wolfgang-Brown, Concord, Mass., Helen Higgins, Olathe, Kan., and Delbert Overton.

ALBERT W.L. MOORE SR. 

Albert Wilson Luce Moore Sr., 87, Liberty, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Ashton Court Nursing Center. 

Mr. Moore was born Sept. 1, 1910, in Ray County, Mo., and lived in the Independence area most of his life. He had lived in Liberty for one month. He was an insurance agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1974. He attended the First Christian Church of Independence. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Moore in 1946. 

His survivors include his wife, Faith MarieMoore, and a son, Albert W.L. Moore Jr., both of Independence; a daughter, Marticia Lou Madory, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a brother, Arthur E. Moore, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a sister, Margaret Moore, Rancho Cordova, Calif.; and two grandsons. 

Private burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.
