CARROL L. CRAWFORD 

Carrol Leo Crawford, 68, Leeton, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City. 

Mr. Crawford was born June 8, 1929, in New Market, Iowa, and had lived in Bates City and Cement, Okla., before moving to Leeton. He retired as a staff sergeant from the United States Army after more than 21 years. He served in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. He owned Carrol`s Garage in Bates City from 1970 to 1977. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Lee Crawford on July 16, 1967. 

His survivors include his wife, Bertha Crawford of the home; five sons, Rodney Crawford, Weatherford, Texas, Clayton "Butch" Crawford, Odessa, Kenneth Crawford, Odessa, Charles "Chuck" Crawford, Blue Springs, and John Crawford, Grain Valley; a daughter, Carrol Tompkins, Blue Springs; two brothers, Gene Crawford, Independence, and Donald Crawford, Biloxi, Miss.; three sisters, Lillian Koger, Lowry City, Mo., Janet Glessinger, Papillion, Neb., and Pat Booker, Missouri Valley, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

RUBY R. DOUGHERTY 

Ruby Ruth Dougherty, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Dougherty was born Dec. 17, 1925, in Norfork, Ark., and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a member of the Pleasant Heights RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Lee Dougherty in 1978. Her survivors include a son, Gary Dougherty, Blue Springs; her mother, Mary Watley, Windsor, Mo.; a sister, Ione Lloyd, Kansas City; and two grandchildren,Ashley and Jeff Dougherty. 

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

CHARLOTTE P. JOHNSON 

Charlotte Pearl Campbell Johnson, 91, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Oak Grove, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, atLee`s Summit Hospital. 

Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 23, 1906, in Bates City and was a lifelong area resident. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove from the age of 11 and had served as a pianist for more than 50 years. She had also been a Sunday school teacher and a past president of theWMU. She was active in 4-H and the University of Missouri Extension Clubs. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Walter Johnson on Sept. 30, 1996, and two sons, William Dennis Johnson and Dr. Gerald Laun Johnson. 

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Dr. Ray Morrison, Independence; a son, Walter Douglas Johnson, Bates City; two daughters-in-law, Judith C. Johnson, Independence, and Doris Short Johnson, Henderson, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, Laurinda Lee Russell, William Dennis Johnson II, Jana Lynn Waits, Jayne Ann Williams, Jeffrey Lane Johnson, James Truett Johnson, Dr. Henry Ross Morrison, Dr. Robert Ray Morrison, Brian Douglas Johnson and Julie Rae Johnson; and 17 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Memorial Church Fund, P.O. Box129, Oak Grove.

HELEN R. ROBB 

Helen R. Robb, Warsaw, 85, Blue Springs, died Tuesday, Oct.14, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. Robb was born Feb. 28, 1912,in Fristoe, Mo., and had lived in southern Benton County and Warsaw, Mo., before moving to Blue Springs in 1992. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warsaw and was very active in helping to coordinate dinners at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris Robb, on March 2, 1981. 

Her survivors include a son, Michael R. Robb, and a daughter, Bonnie Sue Constance, both of Blue Springs; a sister, Blanche Allen, Lee`s Summit; five grandchildren, Doug Constance, Chris Constance, Keith Constance, Chris R. Robb, Jeff Robb and Kelly Oshel; and five great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Warsaw. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

DALE KIRK ALLEN 

Dale Kirk Allen, 47, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mr. Allen was born July 18, 1950, in Independence and lived here all his life. 

His survivors include his mother, Susan A. Allen, Independence; one son, Christopher S. Allen, U.S Air Force; one daughter, Shelly L. Wood, Lee`s Summit; two brothers, Russell Allen, Belton, Mo., and Rex Allen,California. 

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Reppert-Brown Funeral Home, 300 Adams St., Buckner. Burial is at Buckner Hill Cemetery, Buckner.

James"Jim" Clayton Caswell, 39, Sugar Creek, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997. 

Mr. Caswell was born July 18, 1958, in Independence. He lived in the area his entire life. He was a machinist and self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the Mount Washington Baptist Church. 

His survivors include his son, Jeremiah Jason Caswell, Fremont, Calif.; his father, Lewis "Bud" Caswell, Sugar Creek; two brothers, Christopher V. Caswell, Warsaw, Mo., and Steven Matthew Caswell, Kansas City. 

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Monday at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence. Visitation is 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Speaks Midtown Chapel in Independence.

RAYMOND G. MUNSON 

Raymond G. Munson, 60, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, in Independence. 

Mr. Munson served in the U.S. Navy for four years and the U.S. Air Force for 18 years. He was a meteorologist and retired as a Master Sargent. Her served in Vietnam and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Ring Munson, in 1991. 

He is survived by his mother, Mary V. Munson, Shelton, Conn.; two daughters, Mary M. Munson, Baltimore, Md., and Anne A. Munson, of Chicago; one sister, Margaret L. Boath, Ansonia, Conn.; one niece and one nephew. 

Mr. Munson has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered this spring in Lake Yellowstone, Wyo. Arrangements were under the direction of the New Salem Funeral Home in Independence.

HELEN L. YOUNG 

Helen L. Young, 65, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. Young was born June 12, 1932, in Independence and lived her whole life here. She was a graduate of William Chrisman High School and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her husband Richard "Dick" Young, of the home; two sons, Gerald L. Young, Kansas City, and Michael D. Young, Waynesville, Mo.; one daughter, Anita E. Stockdall, Independence; two sisters; and two brothers; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. 

Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday at GeorgeC. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial is at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel.

FLOYD A. CORBIN 

Floyd Austin Corbin, 93, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at the Rosewood Health Center. 

Mr. Corbin was born Sept. 6, 1904, in Holden, Mo., and lived in Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Lee`s Summit before moving to Independence in 1969. He was a retired dock supervisor for Sears in Kansas City. His wife, Vivian Dale Blackwell Corbin, died April 11, 1971. 

His survivors include a son, Floyd Vernon Corbin, Blue Springs; a daughter, Dorothy Dankenbring, Independence; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home,Holden. Burial will be in Holden Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

CHESTER G. TAYLOR 

Chester George Taylor, 78, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in, Olathe, Kan. 

Mr. Taylor was born July 1, 1919, in Blue Springs. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion,where he served as chaplain. He had been an information officer in the Civil Air Patrol with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was employed at Sears & Roebuck for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an ordained deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Taylor. 

His survivors include a son, Robert Taylor, and a daughter, Kathy Hammond, both of Olathe; a brother, Forest Taylor, Wash.;nine grandchildren, Jason Taylor, Joe Taylor, Jill Taylor, Christopher Taylor, Julie Bauer, Geordan Hammond, Sulena Hammond, Loren Hammond and Jayne Hammond; and three great-grandchildren.

ROBERT W. TSCHIRHART 

Robert W. Tschihart, 76, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at Monterey Park Nursing Home. 

Mr. Tschihart was born in Independence. He was a carpenter superintendent for Schweiger Construction Co. for 47 years, retiring in 1985, and a member of Carpenters Union Local 61. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of St. John LaLande Church, Blue Springs, and a Eucharistic minister and usher. 

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ileen E. Tschihart of the home; two daughters, Pamela Foster, Independence, and Denise Bentley, Blue Springs; two brothers, John Tschirhart, Gainesville, Fla., and Bernard Tschirhart, Shawnee, Kan.; three sisters, Margaret Sulzen, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and Justina Miller and Dorothy Ziegler, both of Belton, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Michelle Street, Robert Bentley III and Erica Bentley. 

Services were Monday at the Muehlebach Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown.

GEORGE R. WEBB 

George Roger Webb, 85, Lee`s Summit, formerly of Bates City, died Monday, Oct. 27, 1997, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit. 

Mr. Webb was born in Bates City, and lived most of his life in Independence. He was an auto mechanic for Interstate Bakery for 32 years, retiring in 1973. He was an elder in the RLDS Second Church congregation, and a member of Independence Masonic Lodge 76 and was a Shriner. He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Webb in 1995. 

His survivors include his wife, Virgie M. Webb of John Knox; four sons, Paul Turnbow, Warsaw, Mo., Charles Webb, Bates City, George P. Webb, Kansas City, and Jack Webb, Independence; 18 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

RUBY A. BECKER 

Ruby A. Becker, 88, Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center. 

Mrs. Becker was born July 1, 1909, in Atherton, and had lived in the Independence area all her life. She was a receptionist for Dr. Frank Limberg for many years in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Walter B. Becker in 1995. 

Her survivors include a sister, Estella Farmer, anephew, Gregory A. Farmer, and a niece, Gayle McSparren, all of Independence; five great-nieces; three great-nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews.

MYRTLE L. FRIEND 

Myrtle Lodica Stowell Friend, 91, Independence, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at her daughter`s home in Bates City. 

Mrs. Friend was born Dec. 4, 1905, in Dunseith, N.D., and lived in Independence and Littleton, Colo., before returning to Independence in 1961. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Colbern Road Restoration Branch. 

Her survivors include her husband, Michael Joice Friend, Independence; four sons, Carrol Friend, Independence, Michael Donavon Friend, Holden, Mo., Glen LeRoy Friend, Grain Valley, and Lyle Duane Friend, Oak Grove; two daughters, Amaryllis Ruchaber, Independence, and Rosemary Lodica Harcourt, Bates City; a brother, Ben Stowell, Sibley; a sister, Dolly Grubb, Odessa; 30 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

RONNIE E. JOHNSTON JR. 

Ronnie E. Johnston Jr., 23, Kansas City, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, in Kansas City. 

Mr. Johnston was born March 4, 1974, in Kansas City and was a lifelong Kansas City resident. He worked for Auto Door Lift in Kansas City.

RAYMOND F. STEWART 

Raymond Floyd Stewart, 71, Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Stewart was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Kansas City, Kan., where he spent most of his life. He served two tours of duty in the European Theater of World War II. He was an active athlete and especially in professional baseball. 

His survivors include his wife, Helen Stewart of the home; a daughter, Dr. Donna Carroll, Blue Springs, a stepdaughter, Mary Strobel, Independence; a sister, Evelyn Hulse, Lee`s Summit, a brother, Donald Stewart, Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Hawes, Amanda Carroll,Tyler Carroll and Jessica Carroll.

V. IRENE TRACY 

V. Irene Tracy, 86, St. Joseph, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at a hospital in St. Joseph. 

Ms. Tracy was born May 30, 1911, in Independence, and had lived most of her life in St. Joseph. She was educated in the St. Joseph public schools and continued her education at Johnson School of Business in St. Joseph,where she later taught shorthand and typing for the school in 1930 and 1931. She was employed with the former Western Tablet Co., and worked as a bookkeeper and payroll officer for 44 years. She was a member of the former Third Street RLDS congregation. She was a volunteer worker for the RLDS social service from 1957 to 1976, and was a volunteer quilter for the Second Season Shop of the church from 1976 to 1994. She was one of a few Braille transcribers for Thelona Stevens and the RLDS Herald Publishing House, transcribing the book, "Call at Evening." She joined the St. Joseph Restoration Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she remained a member until her death. 

Her survivors include three sisters, Hattie Campbell, Clinton, Mo., Betty Wray, Independence, and Elnora Polleck, Faucett, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Interment will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

E. EMERSON CAMPBELL 

E. Emerson Campbell, 72, Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital. 

Mr. Campbell was born June 29,1925, in Russellville, Mo. He was a television salesman with Sears for 31 years before he retired. He was a member of the Blue River Church of Christ. 

His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Campbell of the home; three children, Gary Campbell and Randy Campbell, both of Independence, and Jana Schmitt, Kansas City; three sisters, May Robertson and Helen Maechling, both of St. Louis, and Myrtle Felber, Jefferson City; a brother, Charles Campbell, Jefferson City; and one granddaughter, Janessa Schmitt. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. EDWARD A. CLARK 

Edward A. Clark, 88, El Dorado Springs, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City. 

Mr. Clark was born July 15, 1909, in Holland, Mich., and had spent most of his life in Vernon County, Mo. He worked for Richardson Motors in Nevada, Mo., for many years. He attended the Olive Branch Baptist and Montevallo Baptist churches. He served in the 7th Army attached to the Air Force, and spent time in Spain and Hawaii during World War II. 

His survivors include a daughter, Wanda L. Hall, Niles,Mich.; two sons, William E. Clark, El Dorado Springs, and David E. Clark, Sibley; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
