JAMES C. BURNLEY 

James C. "J.C." Burnley, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997. He was born in Buckner and lived there all his life. 

Mr. Burnley was a farmer and served in the Army during World War II. He served on several boards and was a member of many agriculture, business and civic organizations. He was an elder of the First Christian Church of Buckner and member of the VFW Post #8101. 

Mr. Burnley attended William Jewell College and the University of Missouri, where he was a member of the agriculture judging team and a member of the honorary agriculture fraternity, RuffNex. 

Survivors include his wife, Francis Corn Burnley, of the home; two sisters, Evelyn White and Ruth Mary O`Hara; seven nieces and nephews;and nine great-nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church of Buckner with graveside services following at the Buckner Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Reppert Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First Christian Church of Buckner.

LEONARD W. FREEMAN 

Leonard W. Freeman, 73, Blue Springs, died Oct. 3, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Freeman was born on Sept. 11, 1924, in Lurton, Ark. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America and First Assembly of God Church in Independence. 

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Freeman, of the home; two sons, Randy Freeman,Grandview, and Darrell Freeman, Independence; two daughters, Carol McCrory, St. Charles, Mo., and Anita Howe, Blue Springs; his mother, Nola Freeman, Adkins,Ark.; two brothers, Wesley Freeman, Lone Jack, and Verlin Freeman, Adkins; and two sisters, Frankie Reddell, Dover, Ark., and Almeda Cooper, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father, Columbus A. Freeman, two brothers, and one sister. 

Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Monday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial is in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. 

Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God, Independence.

JOHN C. SULLIVAN 

John Colcord "J.C." Sullivan, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at John Knox Care Center, Lee`s Summit. 

Mr. Sullivan was born Jan. 13, 1907, in Jackson County and had lived in Lee`s Summit for the past nine years. He was a manager for the Lincoln-Mercury Division of Ford Motor Company in the district offices in Kansas City and Dallas. He retired in 1962 after 20 years of service. 

Mr. Sullivan was an Army veteran of World War II. 

Mr. Sullivan graduated from Hall`s Memorial High School in Buckner in 1924. He attended the University of Missouri for one year and graduated from William Jewell College in 1928. He was president of Kappa Alpha fraternity for three years while attending William Jewell. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Clara Myrtle McGann. 

Survivors include one sister, Mary Ida Sullivan Pebly, Lee`s Summit. 

Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial is in Buckner Cemetery, Buckner. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

GERTRUDE E. CULLEN 

Gertrude E. Cullen, 79, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mrs. Cullen was born July 3, 1918, in Independence and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a presser for many years with Johnson Cleaners and A&M Cleaners, both of Independence. She was a member of the Enoch Hill RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Cullen in 1982. 

Her survivors include a son, Michael T. Cullen, Independence; two daughters, Louise E. Kendall, Kalispell, Mont., and Jeannette Coffman, Grain Valley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

EDWIN C. GRAMLICH 

Edwin Clarence Gramlich, 66, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Gramlich was born March 4, 1931, in Peoria, Ill. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the church choir and the Young at Heart. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Good Sams Club and American Association of Retired Persons. His survivors include his wife, Doris Gramlich of the home; a daughter, Carol Ackerson, Kansas City; three brothers, Russell Gramlich, Raytown, Gerald Gramlich, Independence, and Donald Gramlich, Blue Springs; his mother-in-law, Esther Mehner of the home; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edgar and Hallie Reynolds; sister-in-law, Barbara Mehner; and two grandchildren, Kip and Drew Ackerson. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, 8240 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Burial will be in Brooking Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Peace Lutheran Church, Kendallwood Hospice or Cancer Action.

THOMAS F. HOUSE 

Thomas F. House, 75, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at North Kansas City Hospital. 

Mr. House was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Buckner. He was a new car salesman for many years at area dealerships. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church. 

His survivors include his wife, Lora House of the home; a brother, James House, Grain Valley; and a sister, Wilma Mueller, Grain Valley.

MURLIN R. "ROGER" ROGERS 

Murlin R. "Roger" Rogers, 58, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mr.Rogers was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Smith County, Kan. He worked in the truck maintenance department of Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of Teamsters` Local 552. 

His survivors include his wife, Johanna Rogers, Blue Springs; two daughters, Jennifer Stevens and Theresa Van Ommeren, both of Blue Springs; four brothers, Jim Rogers, Smith Center, Kan., Charles Rogers, Hays, Kan., Jeff Rogers, Elkhorn, Neb., and Jerry Rogers, White City, Kan.; and two grandchildren,Shayna and Jacob Stevens. 

Cremation with private memorial services. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel.

ANNA W. BASS 

Anna Willa Bass, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at her home in Blue Springs. 

Mrs. Bass was born on May 26, 1918, in Valley Junction, Iowa. She graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa, in 1936. 

She married George Bass on July 11, 1937, and was a homemaker who was active in the Grain Valley RLDS congregation. 

Survivors include her husband, of the home; one daughter, Dona Gist, Independence; and one son, George Bass, Jr., Blue Springs; and two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Grain Valley. Burial is at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. 

The family suggests memorials to the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints, Grain Valley.

ROSE HOLLER 

Rose Holler, 71, Lee`s Summit, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at her home. 

Mrs. Holler was born June 4, 1926, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. She worked for Echelon for 10 years, and was a member of the Baptist faith. 

Her survivors include three sons, Jerry Holler and Robert Holler Sr., both of Independence, and Tom Holler, Lee`s Summit; two daughters, Christine Williamson, Warsaw, Mo., and Terry Lynn Braley, Parkville, Mo.; four sisters, Lucille Haynes and Pearl Griffen, both of Kansas City, Mable Holler, Independence, andDoris Cox, Ottawa, Kan.; a brother, Jack Griffin, Independence; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

GEORGE D. "DON" MARSH 

George Donald "Don" Marsh, 66, Independence, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital in Kansas City. 

Mr. Marsh was born March 21, 1931, in Galt, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 44 years. He worked for Sears, Roebuckand Co. in Kansas City for 27 years, retiring as a manager in 1976. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1000. He was a 1949 graduate of Galt High School and attended Rockhurst College. He was a member of Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. 

His survivors include his wife, Shirley J. Marsh of the home; a daughter, Debra L. Ebbinger, Independence; two sons, D. Wayne Marsh, Raytown, and John D. Marsh, Atlanta; two sisters, Helen Cobb, North Kansas City, and Jean Walters, Overland Park, Kan.; and four grandchildren. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church or the American Heart Association.

ROBIN D. MORTIMER 

Robin D. Mortimer, 57, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Mortimer was a lifelong Independence resident. He was the owner of an automobile repair shop. 

His survivors include his wife, Jane Mortimer of the home; two daughters, both of South Dakota; a son of Minnesota; a sister of South Dakota; nine grandchildren; two nieces, Katrina Brownbill and Bonnie Magyar, both of Independence; two great-nephews; and his home health nurse, Penny.

RUSSELL H. "RUSS" PRIVETTE SR. 

Russell H. "Russ" Privette Sr., 63, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Privette was born July 1, 1934, in Guthrie, Okla. He worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 32 years, retiring as a defense contractor in 1989. 

His survivors include his wife, Ruth Privette of the home; a son, Russell Privette Jr., Oklahoma City; a daughter, Shelli Lichtenegger, Prairie Village, Kan.; two sisters, Wilma Sholer, Albuquerque, and Janice Case, Oklahoma City; a brother, Carl Privette, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Jacob and Kessler, and many nieces and nephews. 

Services were today at the First Presbyterian Church, Guthrie. Burial was in Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, Okla. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Mid-America Hospice, Cancer Action, or the American Cancer Society.

ARNOLD M. SAULSBERRY 

Arnold Monroe Saulsberry, 85, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. 

Mr. Saulsberry was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Pollock, Mo., and had lived most of his life in Independence. He was a contractor and a member of Carpenter`s Local 1329. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge and Maywood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern L. Saulsberry. 

His survivors include two daughters, Christa Ann McMinn, Blue Springs, and Brenda Sue Ford, Independence; a brother, Hollis Lee Saulsberry, Los Angeles; a sister, Mildred Amer, Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kevin McMinn, Kirk McMinn and Malissa Hermann; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Services will be private. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Aviary Fund of Hidden Lake Care Center, 11400 Hidden Lake Drive, Raytown.

EVELYN L. RICHARDS 

Evelyn L. Richards, 74, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Richards was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Waverly, Neb. She was a schoolteacher in Buchanan County, Mo., a bookkeeper and was retired from the Retail Clerks Union. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence, and for the past 10 years, she was a volunteer at IRHC in the HealthLine and Senior Friends programs. 

Her survivors include her husband of 50 years, Gerald L. Richards of the home; a son, Blair Richards, Independence; two daughters, Marla Jones, Independence, and Alison Adams, Sibley; and six grandchildren. 

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the scholarship fund at the church.

WILLIAM P. RILEY 

William Patrick Riley, 52, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mr. Riley was born March 7, 1945 in Kansas City. He was a 1964 graduate of William Chrisman High School, and a member of American Legion 499 in Blue Springs. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as an auto mechanic. 

His survivors include his wife, Vickie Riley, and a daughter, Trisha Lynn Riley, both of the home; a son, Dwayne Edward Riley, Blue Springs; his father, William C. Riley, Independence; and three brothers, Mike Riley, Kevin Riley and Keith Riley, all of Independence. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

WILLIAM O. TEMPLE 

William O. Temple, 75, San Antonio, Texas, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Temple grew up in the laundry and dry cleaning business and retired from Cleaners Hanger Co. after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of Abdallah Shrine Temple and the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Temple. 

His survivors include his wife, Patricia Temple; a son, William H. Temple, Jefferson City; a stepdaughter, Susan Gunn, Auburn, Calif.; and a grandson, Scott Temple. 

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio. Burial will be at a later date in Independence. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.

VIRGIL R. SAYERS 

Virgil R. Sayers, 91, Independence, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence. 

Mr. Sayers was born April 12, 1906, in Linn County, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 56 years. He worked for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant for 24 years, retiring in 1971. He was a charter member (44 years) of Calvary Baptist Church. 

His survivors include his wife of 70 years, Frieda M. Sayers of the home; a daughter, Dolores Sciolaro, Grain Valley; a son, Stanley D. Sayers, Oak Grove; a sister, Veda Wood, Chillicothe, Mo.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 1915 N. Liberty St. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

William Stephen Boyce, 51, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at his home. 

Mr. Boyce was born July 28, 1946, in Kansas City. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Lee`s Summit Bass Club. 

His survivors include a son, Kenneth Boyce, Hartsburg, Mo.; a sister, Barbara Rellihan, Independence; two nieces, Kimberly Ross and Julie Rellihan; two nephews, Philip and Jeff Rellihan; three great-nephews; and one great-niece.

CHARLES P. BUCHANAN 

Charles Paul Buchanan, 53, Kansas City, Kan., died Sunday,Oct. 12, 1997, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. 

Mr. Buchanan was born Aug. 30, 1944, in Port Huron, Mich. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs. He was an Army veteran. He was a driver for Motorcraft Factory Auto Parts. 

His survivors include his wife, Sharon Buchanan of the home; a son, Brian Buchanan, his mother, Mary Lou Buchanan, and a brother, Douglas Buchanan, all of Blue Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

PEGGY MORMAN 

Peggy Morman, 60, Raytown, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington, Mo. 

Mrs. Morman was born March 13, 1937, in Spiro, Okla. She was a member of the Assembly of God faith. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Glen Morman, and a daughter, Carla Beck. 

Her survivors include her husband, Carlton Morman of the home; two brothers, Wendell Corley, Higginsville, Mo., and Bud Corley, Elkton, Mo.; three sisters, Faye Turner and Debbie Carter, both of Blue Springs,and Donna Green, Michigan; two granddaughters, Sara Beck, Independence, and Patsy Morman of the home.
