Manford Spicer Jr., 82, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Spicer was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Kansas City. He received his early education in the Kansas City Missouri Public School District. He attended Englewood Assembly of God. He had been employed with Antoine Seed Co. as a grounds keeper and had also worked in the maintenance department for the Bank of Independence and retired after many years of service.
His survivors include a friend, James Lyke, Independence; and a host of many friends.
Graveside services were today at Mound Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Watkins Brothers Memorial Chapel.

LESTER E. SCHUSTER
Lester Ellis Schuster, 93, Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Camden Health Center, Harrisonville, Mo.
Mr. Schuster was born April 21, 1905, in Polo, Mo., and had lived in Independence, Gallatin, Mo., and Tina, Mo., before spending the last 34 years at the health center. He was a retired member of IBEW 124 and was a member of the Rockwood Baptist Church, Independence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel May Stagner Schuster, and a great-grandson, Zakkery Evans.
His survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ervin Lee and Marie Schuster, Independence, and Larry Eugene and Deanna Schuster, Harrisonville, Mo.; two half brothers, Sterling Schuster, Napa, Calif., and Richard Schuster, Nairobi, Kenya; two half sisters, Dollie Taylor, San Leandro, Calif., Jean Clark, Atchison, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George C. Carson's Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Avalon (Mo.) Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time at the chapel.

THELMA R. HUFF
Thelma R. Huff, 93, Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at The Manor of Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. Huff was born Jan. 9, 1905, in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived in Independence for 56 years before moving back to Kansas City, Kan., a few years ago. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Independence. She worked for Curts Market before retiring in 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence V. Huff in 1971.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Leland C. and
Helen Huff, Kansas City, Kan.; and grandchildren, Philip L. Huff, Gayle M. Beth and Lee Ann Marks; and great-grandchildren, Kyle P. Huff, Leslee E. Marks, Abby A. Huff and Emily M. Beth.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.

MELBA F. HANKINS
Melba Frances Hankins, 89, Stanton, Neb., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk, Neb.
Mrs. Hankins was born Oct. 25, 1909, in Ashland, Neb., and had lived in Sargent, Lexington and Wayne, all in Nebraska, before moving to Stanton in 1940. She was a member of the New England Congregational Church, Stanton. She was preceded in death by three grandsons.
Her survivors include her husband of 67 years, M.J. Hankins, Stanton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and James Ballantyne, Independence, and Mary and Ronald Wolff, Stanton; grandchildren, Nancy and David Taylor, Laura and Jeff Hankins, John Ballantyne and Joy and Rick Colwell; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were today at the New England Congregational Church, Stanton. Interment was in Stanton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Shultz-Vogel-Johnson Mortuary, Stanton.

CHARLES E. FOWLER
Charles Edward Fowler, 59, Grain Valley, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Fowler was born Sept. 15, 1939, in St. Clair County, Mo., and had lived in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Lexington, Mo., before moving to Grain Valley. He and his wife, Shirley A. Beckwith, owned and operated Osage Orange Electronics in El Dorado Springs
from 1970 to 1978. He had been employed at Jensen Engineering in Kansas City as a mechanical engineer for more than 20 years. He was an Army veteran and a member of the American Legion in El Dorado Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Shirley Fowler of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Dee Dee Ann and Wayne Harper, Warrensburg, Mo.; a brother, Robert A. Fowler, Kansas City; two grandsons, Gale and Joey Harper; three nieces and one nephew.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hackleman & Sons Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, Mo. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, St. Clair, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, and from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hackleman & Sons Funeral Home in El Dorado Springs. JOHNNY L. SMITH
Johnny Lee Smith, 48, Oak Grove, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 8, 1950, in Macon, Mo., and he had lived in Oak Grove for the past 23 years. He had worked for the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Bureau as an information system manager for the past eight years. He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, the Oak Grove Little League and the Oak Grove Men's Softball Team.
His survivors include his wife, Terry Smith of the home; two sons, Chad E. Smith, Oak Grove, and Lucas J. Smith, Blue Springs; his mother, Nadine Hemme, Sweet Springs, Mo.; a brother, Floyd Smith, Granite City, Ill.; and a sister, Helen Yancy, Centerview, Mo.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Carpenter Cemetery, Chilhowee, Mo. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

TYLER C. JONES
Tyler Cobb Jones, 23, Lee's Summit, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Childrens' Mercy Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born Sept. 3, 1975, in Kansas City. He was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church. He graduated from O'Hara High School in 1994. He participated in four years of soccer and served as a basketball manager four years. He also attended two years at Longview Community College and served as a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Josephine Barnett and Paternal great-grandfather, Lawrence Gibbons.
His survivors include his father and mother, Lawrence R. and Teresa J. Jones, a sister, Tessa Jones, and a brother, Trenton Jones, all of the home; grandparents, Elmer and Ruth Barnett, Oak Grove, Raymond and Barbra Jones, Kerrville, Texas, and Lester and Connie Todt, Blue Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Tyler Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund at O'Hara High School, in care of the Bank of Jacomo, South Missouri 7, Blue Springs, Mo.; or to the PICU unit of Childrens' Mercy Hospital. BILLY F. BOBBITT
Billy Forrest Bobbitt, 65, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Care Center.
Mr. Bobbitt was born Aug. 30, 1933, in Waldron, Ark., and had lived in the Independence area for 35 years. He was employed by Valenite Inc. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. His memberships include Alpha Masonic Lodge, Westport York Rite, Scottish Rite, Wichita, Kan., Ararat Shrine Temple, Ararat Drum & Bugle Corps Unit and was a former drum major and director, Transporters Club of Ararat Temple, Jackson County Shrine Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles 3717, and a bowling and golf league in Shenandoah, Iowa.
His survivors include his wife, Melvera Bobbitt of the home; a daughter, Brenda Bobbitt, Tulsa, Okla.; and two brothers, J.W. Bobbitt, Billings, Mo., and Donald J. Bobbitt, Wichita, Kan.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the Park Lawn Chapel, where there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriners Crippled Children's Fund.

JAMES A. YOUNG SR.
James Albert Young Sr., 78, Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Young was born Feb. 20, 1920, in Finey, Mo., and had lived near Clinton before moving to Independence in 1964. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Union UAW Local 93, Windsor Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and the Ararat Shrine. He had worked for General Motors, Leeds Plant, for more than 20 years before retiring in 1984. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, James Richard Young and Donnie Dean Hudson.
His survivors include his wife, Gladys Young of the home; a son, James Young Jr., Blue Springs; two daughters, Judy Hudson, Kayenta, Ariz., and Sharon Church, Clinton, Mo.; two sisters, Cleo Lutes, Blue Springs, and Peggy Smith, Independence; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Masonic graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Speaks Suburban Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association.

EDNA M. RINACKE
Edna M. Rinacke, 92, Concordia, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the Lutheran Nursing Home, Concordia.
She was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Eustis, Neb., and had lived in Independence for many years before moving to Concordia 22 years ago. She retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant. She was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ in Concordia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Rinacke in 1956 and a son, Ronald Rinacke in 1973.
Survivors include a son, Troy Rinacke, Concordia; a sister, Ethel Lehmann, Elwood, Neb.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service time. The family suggests contributions to the Bethel United Church of Christ.

JAMES FRIZZELL & IMOGENE FRIZZELL
Mr. and Mrs. James Frizzell, Gladstone, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. Frizzell was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Deepwater, Mo. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1947 to 1950. He worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad from 1952 to 1963. He had also worked at the ADM Milling Co. He retired in 1988 as a security guard from the Commerce Bank of Kansas City. Since 1997, he had worked for the OATS Corp. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 659 of North Kansas City, the Scottish Rite of Kansas City, and the Ararat Shrine, Harem Unit. He had been a member of the Boy Scouts of American since 1939. He was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say and was an Eagle Scout.
Mrs. Frizzell was born Aug. 3, 1932, in Windsor, Mo. She had worked as a sales clerk at the Gladstone Dollar General Store since 1995.
Mr. and Mrs. Frizzell had been members of the Linden Baptist Church for more than 35 years. They were original residents of Gladstone. They were involved in many charitable and community activities. For more than 25 years they opened their home and cared for physically and mentally handicapped children. During the operation of the Wee Care Group Home, Mrs. Frizzell was the home administrator.
They are survived by two sons, Richard Frizzell, Liberty, and Kurt Frizzell, Kansas City; two daughters, Kimberly Frizzell-Parente, Liberty, and Kelli Jo Frizzell, Gladstone; a foster child, Delina Trammell, Gladstone; and grandchildren, Brandon Trial-Frizzell, Justin Trial-Frizzell, Cody Frizzell, Peyton Frizzell, Ethan Frizzell, and Jackson Seth Parente.
Mr. Frizzell is also survived by a brother, Robert Frizzell, Indepeendence; and a sister, Doris Smith, Independence.
Mrs. Frizzell is also survived by a brother-in-law, Raymond Raines, Independence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Linden Baptist Church, 611 Northeast 69th Street, Gladstone. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Gladstone. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's White Chapel, Gladstone. The family suggests contributions to the Linden Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel Funeral Home.

MYRLE Z. EWALT
Myrle Zuber Ewalt, 102, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, in Independence.
Mrs. Ewalt was born Aug. 2, 1896, in Low Moor, Iowa, and had lived in Kennett, Mo., and the Warsaw/Clinton area for 20 years, before moving to Independence. She was baptized and confirmed by her father into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and later played a fold-up organ as the accompaniment for the hymns in the church. While living in Kennett, she was the local mid-wife, having delivered close to 100 babies. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Dale Zuber in 1951, her second husband, Henry McKinney in 1955 and her third husband, Allan Leroy Ewalt in 1989. She was also preceded in death by three children, Mary Evelyn Turner, Betty June Payne and Herbert Dale Zuber.
Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Wanda Zuber, Bennett, Colo.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Bonnie and John Sparks, Independence, Donna and Roland Hughes, Independence, and Kathryn Middleton, Smithville, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and 43 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the chapel. Private family graveside services will be Monday at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Outreach International, Independence.

LETHA J. WOODS
Letha Jane Woods, 97, Odessa, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.
Mrs. Woods was born Aug. 8, 1901, in Missouri City, Mo., and had lived in the Buckner area for 67 years before moving to Odessa a few years ago. She was a homemaker. She loved to piece quilts and crochet. She was an active member of Anchor Point Baptist Church, Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Fred Woods, and two children, E.J. Woods and Elmo Woods.
Her survivors include a son, Ernest D. Woods, Buckner; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, 300 Adams, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Anchor Point Baptist Church, 25501 East Bundschu Road, Independence, Mo. 64056.

John W. Schroeder, 87, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998.
Mr. Schroeder was born Nov. 24, 1911, in Bucyrus, Kan. He retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant in 1976. He was a member of the Eagles 3717.
His survivors include his wife, Rose Schroeder of the home; daughters, Barbara Ann Hilton, Raytown, and Martha Deaver, Flemington, Mo.; two sons, John W. Schroeder, Anaheim, Calif., and Thomas L. Schroeder, Independence; a brother, Clarence Schroeder, Illinois; a stepdaughter, Patricia Lomax, Gilbert, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

MILDRED A. GILL
Mildred A. VanSickle Gill, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the Park Place Care Center in Raytown.
Mrs. Gill was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Macon, Mo., and had lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was employed by Dr. A.R. Robinson for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and worked in various church groups.
Her survivors include her husband, Carl Gill of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Carl Brennaman Jr., Kansas City; a son, Larry Van Sickle, San Diego, Calif.; a grandson, Andrew Brennaman, Kansas City; and two sisters, Mary Seeds, Reno, Nev., and Martha Binder, Morris, Ill.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Ascension Lutheran Church, 4900 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church.
