WILLIAM A. BINK 

William A. Bink, 63, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998. 

Mr. Bink was born Feb. 19, 1935, in Kansas City, and had lived his entire life in the greater Kansas City area. He was a codes administrator for the City of Kansas City until his retirement in 1994. He was co-founder of Bink's Truck and Auto in Grain Valley. He was a member of the Missouri Valley Arms Association. 

His survivors include his wife, Laura A. Bink; six children, Linda C. Ackerman, Denison, Texas, Catherine L. Younger, Kansas City, Michelle S. Bink, Duluth, Minn., Penny M. McGan, Belton, Teresa A. Loch, Belton, and Joseph A. Bink, Blue Springs; a brother, Joseph A. Bink, Kansas City; a sister, Judith M. Pemberton, Riverside, Calif.; a half sister, Rebecca West, Kansas City; his stepmother, Millie Bink, Raytown; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. 

Services were today at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of the Park Lawn Funeral Home.

JUSTUS C. BEAN 

Justus Conrad Bean, 83, Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998. 

Mr. Bean was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Sacramento, Calif. He operated the American Upholstry and Design Co. out of his home in Independence for many years and later worked and retired from TWA as a machinist. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Elizabeth Lewis. 

His survivors include his wife, Lorean Bean of the home; two children, Justine Gamble, Bakersfield, Calif., and Gerald Bean, San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Jane Brown and Dawn P. Ware, both of Independence; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

Cremation and burial on family grounds will be at a later date.

ROSE E. McCAIN 

Rose Elizabeth Keltner McCain, 76, Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Independence, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, in Tucson. 

Mrs. McCain was born July 5, 1922, in Stilwell, Kan., and had lived in Independence before moving to Tucson three years ago. She graduated from Emporia State Teachers' College in 1940 and taught for several years in the Stilwell area. While in Independence, she was active in the Blue Ridge Baptist Church of Independence. In Stilwell, she was active in the South Haven Baptist Church of Belton, where she was involved in the Young at Heart senior's group, the Women on Mission Baptist women's group, and the Joy Sunday school class. She was president of the Kansas City Business and Professional Women's Organization in the 1970s. After retirement, she was involved with Project Finish, a Johnson County, Kan., literacy program. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lathrop McCain, and a son, Charles Ernest McCain. 

She is survived by her son, George Edward McCain of Tucson. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the E.K. George and Sons Funeral Home, Belton. Graveside services and burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to South Haven Baptist Church of Belton.

DOROTHY M. TRYON 

Dorothy M. Tryon, 76, Kansas City, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at her home. 

Mrs. Tryon was born July 15, 1922, in Kansas City. She was a member of Sterling Acres Baptist Church. She worked for Western Electric for 21 years. 

Her survivors include her husband of 56 years, George S. Tryon of the home; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Tom and Diane Tryon, Blue Springs, Gene and Katey Tryon, Kansas City, Pat Tryon and Steve Tryon, both of Kansas City; four grandsons, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson. 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice.

EUGENIA "JEAN" L. STEWART 

Eugenia "Jean" Lee Stewart, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998. 

Mrs. Stewart was born June 22, 1925, in Bates City, and she had lived most of her life in the Kansas City area. She was the owner of Grossman's Supply Co., which she closed when she retired. 

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Pete Mistretta, Raytown; two brothers, Robert E. Williams Jr., Burlington, Kan., and Lowell I. Williamson, Princeton, Mo., a sister, Patsy R. Bliss, Blue Springs; and three grandchildren, Jennifer, Sam and Rosemary. 

Services will be at 2 today at the Carson Funeral Home, 9100 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City. Burial will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Home Cemetery, Warsaw, Mo.

HELEN M. HART 

Helen M. Hart, 91, Harrisonville, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at the Camden Health Care, Harrisonville, Mo. 

Mrs. Hart was born Dec. 12, 1907, in Independence, and had lived in Independence for most of her life. She had been a bookkeeper for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 16 years. She had also worked as a bookkeeper for other businesses in Kansas City area. She was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, the Young Matrons, Kansas City Women's Club and Atheanaeum. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hart, on Sept. 29, 1997. 

Her survivors include two daughters, Fran Lowery, Peculiar, Mo., and Sarah Clark, Prairie Village, Kan.; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until service time at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.

BETTY J. ARCHER 

Betty Jean Archer, 68, Lake Lafayette (Odessa), died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs. 

Mrs. Archer was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Saline City, Mo., and had lived in the Independence and Kansas City areas, Slater, Mo., and Gladstone, Mo., before moving to Lake Lafayette in 1981. She was a clerk and secretary from 1964 to 1985 for several firms, including Sinclair & Valentine Ink Co., Box Office Magazine, and King Oil Co, all of Kansas City. She also worked for the North Kansas City School District. She was the founding mayor of Lake Lafayette and served two terms from 1994-97. She also served as secretary for the Lake Lafayette Association from 1981 to 1994. She was a 1947 graduate of Slater (Mo.) High School. She was a life member of the Odessa Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary Post No. 5675, the Odessa Duplicate Bridge Club, and a past member of the DOE-SE-DOERS Square Dance Club. 

Her survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Archer of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. "Bob" and Barbara Archer, Parkville, Mo.; two daughters, Carol Archer, Kansas City, and Leah Bridger, Kansas City; her mother, Thelma Stechmann of the home; one brother, William Stechmann, Kansas City; and eight grandchildren. 

Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel in Odessa, Mo. Inurnment will be private. Friends may call after the service at 11 a.m. at the Odessa VFW Post.

PAUL P. GRUBB 

Paul P. Grubb, 81, Bates City, Mo., died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Western Missouri Medical Center, Warrensburg, Mo. 

Mr. Grubb was born May 10, 1917, in Odessa/Chapel Hill area. He had worked at the Lake City Ammunition Plant from 1940 to 1945 and from 1966 to 1979. He had also farmed south of Bates City since the early 1940s. He was a 1936 graduate of the Bates City High School. He was a member of the Odessa Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of the Elm Spring Baptist Church, Kingsville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Jewell Shafer Grubb on April 14, 1975, and his second wife, Edna L. Murry Browning Grubb, on March 14, 1996; and a son, Phillip Grubb in July 1971. 

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Sharon Grubb, Los Angeles; and daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Wendall Estill, Bates City; two stepsons, Robert Browning, Odessa, and LeRoy Browning, Scappose, Ore.; two stepdaughters, Ida Anderson, Odessa, and Joyce Klema, Racine, Wis.; a brother, Henry V. Grubb, and a sister, Mary Ahrin, both of Odessa; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Elm Spring Baptist Church, Kingsville. Burial will be in Elm Spring Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. The family suggests contributions to the Elm Spring Cemetery Association.

R. EARL QUICK JR. 

R. Earl Quick Jr., 79, Lake Lotawana, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home. 

Mr. Quick was born July 2, 1919, in Keytesville, Mo. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served with the First Signal Troop of the First Calvary Division. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the special second amendment task force, founding member of Missouri Sports Shooters Association. He was the former owner of Quick Electric in Brunswick, Mo. He was a safety instructior for the NRH and was the original hominy maker for Heritage Days in Warsaw, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Merceda Quick in 1992. 

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, R.E. and Jo Quick, Lee's Summit; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Ahern and Eric Godt, Lake Lotawana; and grandchildren, Sean and Michelle Ahern, Brian Ahern, Doug Helm, Steven Helm, Greg Helm, Daniel Godt and Jennifer Wilson; and nine great-grandchildren.

Jennie V. Durbin Kabrick, 79, Odessa, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center. 

Mrs. Kabrick was born June 24, 1919, in Atherton, and she had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Kabrick. 

Her survivors include a brother, Eugene Durbin, Odessa; two nieces; and a nephew.

DAVID B. SHERPY 

David B. Sherpy, 74, Oak Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home. 

Mr. Sherpy was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Nevada, Mo., and had lived most of his life in Independence before moving to Oak Grove nine years ago. He was a route supervisor for Bitterman and Son for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the national secretary of SeBright Poultry Club of America. 

His survivors include his wife, Rosalie Sherpy of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roy B. Sherpy and David Christian and Karen, Oak Grove; a brother, Henry H. Sherpy, Wichita, Kan.; and three sisters, Mary Belle Little, Overland Park, Kan., Della Park, Westminster, Colo., and Margaret Sealy, Moberly, Mo. 

Services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel; cremation.

Cleveland Howard Bellamy, 51, Sibley, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. 

Mr. Bellamy was born Oct. 3, 1947, in Warrensburg, Mo. 

His survivors include his mother, Goldie Elsie Bellamy; two sons, Cleveland Howard Bellamy and Timothy L. Bellamy; five brother, Ernie, Randal, Fred, Leroy and Neal; and three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Austin and Dominic.

ROBERT R. CRICK 

Robert R. Crick, 61, Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. 

Mr. Crick was born April 18, 1937, in Independence. He was a 1955 graduate of William Chrisman High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He had worked as a fireman in Montgomery, Ala., before he returned to Independence and worked as a member of the Independence Fire Department for 35 years. He retired with the rank of captain. He was past presidenbt and past secretary of the Woodmoor Homes Association. He was a Freemnason and a member and a past master of Independence Lodge 76. He served as secretary of that Masonic Lodge from 1979 until his death. He had been a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and was a member of Independence Chapter 12, Council 49 and Palestine Commander 17 of the York Rite of Freemasonry. He was secreatary of the Independence Masonic Temple Association from 1979 until his death. He served the Grand Lodge AF & AM of Missouri as district deputy grand master of the 59th district, as a member of the Long Range Planning and Building Supervisory Board Committees, and as the Grand Sword Bearer in 1996 and 1997. He organized and participated in fund-raising activities for the Masonic Home for 18 years. 

His survivors include his wife, Sandra Crick; two daughters and a son-in-law, Pamela Rohrbach, Independence, and Cassandra and Dennis Willett, Blue Springs; a son, Robert R. Crick Jr., Independence; three sisters, Margaret Allen and Lillian Alumbaugh, both of Independence, and Nancy Wood, Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, John E. Crick, Independence; grandchildren, Joshua and Heather Rohrback and Dennis and Shelby Willett; and 18 nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. Betty Sue McDonald, 60, Harlingen, Texas, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, in Harlingen, Texas. 

Mrs. McDonald was born Oct. 14, 1938, in Gassville, Ark., and she had lived in Baxter Springs, Kan., before moving to Independence. She was a graduate of Central High School. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Independence. She was a member of the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. 

Her survivors include her husband of 42 years, Rex McDonald of the home; three sons, Denny McDonald, Oak Grove, David McDonald, St. Joseph, Mo., and James McDonald, Everst, Wash.; her mother, Alma Patterson, Blue Springs; a sister, Mary Lou Herbst, Belton; and four grandchildren.

EVA K. HAMPTON 

Eva Katherine Hampton, 78, Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at her home. 

Mrs. Hampton was born April 2, 1920, in St. Joseph, Mo. She graduated from Benton High School with honors. She and her husband, Elmer D. Hampton, had worked for the DITMCO in Kansas City. She had been in the Messiah Choir for more than 30 years. She had been an active member of the Spring Branch congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and for the past several years a member of the Summit Grove congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer D. Hampton in 1997. 

Her survivors include her six children, Gerald E. Hampton, Lamoni, Iowa, Donna Ree Crawford, Independence, Daniel Ray Hampton, Blue Springs, Ethel Mae Essex, Columbus, Ohio, Eva Lee Cartwright, Sibley, and Neva Marie Housknecht, Raytown; a brother, Ray Trotter, Eugene, Ore.; a sister, Helen Trotter, Pasadena, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

JOHN H. JOHNSEN 

John H. Johnsen, 83, Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at his home. 

Mr. Johnsen was born in Chicago, Ill., and had lived in Independence before moving to Sun City in 1974. He had been employed for 30 years for Amoco Refinery in Sugar Creek, retiring as manager in 1974. He was a member of the Faith Presbyterian 

Church, Sun City. He was a member of Rotary and was president of the Boys Club in Independence. He also played trumpet in numerous orchestras. 

His survivors include his wife, Gertrude Johnsen, Sun City; three daughters, Nancy Good, Joplin, Mo., Sandra Gramling, Overland Park, Kan., and Marty Belknap, Sterling, Colo.; and five grandchildren. 

Services were today at the Faith Presbyterian Church, Sun City. The family suggests contributions to the Communtiy Church of the Rockies, 1700 Brodie Avenue, Estes Park, Colo. 80517. Arrangements were under the direction of the Lundberg Mortuary, Youngtown, Ariz.

SUE H. BRUEGGEMAN 

Sue H. Brueggeman, 97, Lexington, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at the Country Care Boarding Home, Lexington. 

Mrs. Brueggeman was born Oct. 2, 1901, in Lexington. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Lexington. 

Her survivors include two daughters, Betty Ristine, Green Valley, Ariz., and Bonell Cravens, Independence; two granddaughters, Susan McNeal, Blue Springs, and Elizabeth Cring, Nashville, Tenn.; and six great-grandchildren.

HAZEL P. YORK 

Hazel Pearl York, 90, Platte City, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Hillview Nursing and Rehab Center, Platte City, Mo. 

Mrs. York was born June 1, 1908, in Independence, and had lived most of her life in Independence. She had been comptometer operator for 20 years for Commonwealth Theaters until retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Walnut Park RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wendel York in 1980. 

Her survivors include a daughter, Sue Williams, Kansas City; a brother, Gordon Smith, Independence; and a grandson, Kelly Michael Williams.

LAWRENCE "LARRY" R. THOMAS

Lawrence "Larry" Ray Thomas, 69, Wheatland, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at his home. 

Mr. Thomas had retired from the Independence Fire Department and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had moved to the Wheatland community from Independence approximately 11 years ago. 

His survivors include his wife, Julia Marie Thomas of the home; a son, Lawrence Mark Thomas, Hawaii; three stepsons, Larry Cecil Green and George Wayne Green, both of Elkton, and Chris Edward Green, Michigan; a stepdaughter, Kathy Marie Harris, Springfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

MARVIN T. SIMMERMAN

Marvin Temple Simmerman, 80, Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Nevada (Mo.) Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Simmerman was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Lexington, Mo. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the parts department of Allis Chambers Co., Independence. Following retirement, he moved to Schell City, Mo., before moving to Fort Scott in 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Arlene Villers Simmerman on Feb. 7, 1997. 

His survivors include a daughter, Carol Arnold, Fort Scott; a son, Robert T. Simmerman, Hampton, Va.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. 

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan. 66701.
