Program under auspices (of the) U.D.C. - Address by J. G. Paxton - Medals Presented. Crosses presented to: H. P. Wherritt, J. T. Crump, D. F. Ervin, C. C. Fields, J. M. Hardin, A. E. Higgason, A. J. Liddil, Sanders Chrisman, T. C. Caldwell, C. T. Fox, W. W. Fields, S. F. Hume, W. H. Hardin, J. W. Mercer, J. T. Noland. The Independence Chapter of the U.D.C (United Daughters of the Confederacy) presented crosses to the above named confederate veterans at the meeting held at the High school Friday afternoon, the anniversary of the birth of General Robert E. Lee. The crosses were awarded and presented under the rules of the State organization. The presentation address was made by Mrs. Joseph W. Mercer, president of the Independence Chapter and the response on behalf of the veterans was made by the Rev. A. E. Higgason. Prof. George S. Bryant concluded the program.
