Richard Simms Family Burial Ground

Location: Seven Miles N. W. of Liberty, Mo.
in the southwest quarter of section 6, township 52, range 31.

The following gravestone records were taken from the
Richard Simms family burial ground by Robert Steel Withers,
a descendant, and Mrs. Withers, on January 23, 1947.

This burial ground is seven miles northwest of Liberty, Mo.,
in the southwest quarter of section 6, township 52, range 31.

It was deeded to Clay county, Mo., February 6, 1873,
by Joseph Solden Simms, son of the pioneer,
and is now county property, which fact is recorded
on page 448 of Book 39 in the recorder's office.

Nothing has been done by the county to preserve this
historic cemetery though it contains the grave a
Clay county pioneer, Richard Simms, who served
under George Washington in the Revolutionary War.

The grave is marked by a U. S. Government stone
erected in 1912 by Alexander Doniphan Chapter
Daughters of the American Revolution
as well as by the family monument.
