John W. Reynolds, born in Kentucky on the 26th of
November, 1805 and came to Clay county with his
father, James Reynolds, in the Spring of 1820. He was
of Virginia stock. He was twice married and left,
surviving him, 7 children, five by his first and 2 by
his second wife. The latter also survives him. member
of Little Shoal Old Baptist Church. Buried in the
graveyard at that church beside his first wife. Mr.
Reynolds left a comfortable estate. In 1821, boy
though he was, in going on an errand for his father,
rifle in hand, alone and unaided, he killed a large
bear on the hills south of Michael Arthur's old home
place which stood five miles southwest of Liberty.
His second wife was Emily (Milam) Crow Reynolds and
his children were Mary Frances Reynolds, wife of
William A. Reynolds, Yerby Reynolds, James E.
Reynolds, Anna Katherine Peters, Jonas Reynolds,
Thomas Reynolds and Louisiana Clark.
