John M. Linderman
Another of Clay county's oldest
and most respected citizens has passed from us, never
to return. John M. Linderman died at his residence in
this county at 6:00am, February 11, 1877, aged 65
years, 7 months, 27 days. He was born in Baden,
German, June 17, 1811, and landed in America at the
age of 22. He was married February 19, 1838 in
Summerset county, PA., to Miss Eliza Boyd and
emigrated to Clay county, Missouri, the same year
where he has ever since resided. Mr. Linderman was
truly a model man. Quiet and unassuming in manner,
attentive to his own business, and honored by all who
knew him for his strict integrity and kind
disposition. He leaves his wife of his youth, with
their family, who are now nearly all grown to mourn
his loss. He was buried on the 15th instant on the
hill near his residence. Never was such a concourse
of people seen in Clay county before of a burial in
the country. The Rev. M??? preached his funeral. The
dis??? commensurate with the subject. In the grandest
and most eloquent style the speaker pictured to the
waiting multitude the beauties and splendor or that
higher life to which the deceased had gone. Every one
went away with new hopes and aspirations, never to
forget the vent of that day.
The family and relatives of the deceased have the
sympathy of many friends in this their sad
bereavement. A Friend.
